Hello everyone, I've just registered. First can I say many thanks for all the great information. I've learnt so much and just in time me thinks! Now I know what detailing is, I think I should have my new car professionally protected from the off. My new Q5 in solid black should be ready first week in March 2010. I've spoken to Autofinesse and Gleamachine regarding them going up to the main stealer (Weyside MK) and doing the whole PDI. Just wondered if any of you guys have had any dealings with either detailiers, like are they any good! and if the main dealer is likely to have a problem with this. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thank you for any help. Ps. I am based in Essex

regards rob

I think Nathan from Cambridge detailing covers your area, and he frequents TSN (jediknight83). He has posted a lot of pictures of his work in the cleaning forum, and they look superb.

He was scheduled to detail my Porsche last week, but I had to cancel due to the snow. We hope to reschedule soon.

I've no experience of the other detailers you mention, so I suggest you send Nathan a PM and see whether this is something he can help with.

Nice car by the way, I'm thinking about one for my wife - what spec have you gone for?

Cheers

Hi Rob & welcome +++

I have heard of the two detailing co's you mention on another detailing forum and whilst I have no personal experience of their workmanship, I don't think I would have a problem using either of them.

As said though, Nathan comes well recommended on here too and there are some great examples of his work which youhave possibly already stumbled across +++

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Rob. Re detailing at a dealers... some are fine with it.. and some get funny. Partly because they make a lot of commission from the 'lifeshine' protection they offer and partly because they cannot always give access to the car indoors for the time required to detail the car properly (probably around 6-7 hrs for a car of that size). I've done work at different dealers before (audi, aston, porsche) but its always been arranged by the customer and is down to how well they got on with the sales person usually.

Other thing to consider with a solid black car.. it may have picked up surface marks, swirls etc in the PDI and pre delivery wash. Solid black is about the worst colour for showing marks and even one poor dealer wash can leave a nasty mess that needs polishing. This will take extra time and unfortunately at a cost.. although if the paintwork is a disaster I have experiences dealers paying for part of the detail as a good will gesture... again this would be for you to inspect the car and agree this.. but its well worth going round the car with a fine tooth comb and a bright flash light!

Alternatively as has been mentioned by Scotty, I (most detailers) will come to you at home and carry out the detail there... This time of year you would need a large garage though really for any detailing work to be effective.

Hope that helps and feel free to call or drop an email tomorrow even if its just for advice / a chat on how to proceed which ever detailer you choose to go with.

Regards

Nathan
