shadow8
Have a 2002 Final Edition S8. Beautiful car. No problems. Drives a dream. Has most of what I crave. However, I have an opportunity to purchase a facelift 2008 S8 with the V10 engine. Now what do I do? No reason other than lust to change to new car but it is going to be as I understand the last S8 Audi are going to produce and it certainly will be the last V10 engined car they make as they are following BMW down the turbo-charged V8 route as their top spec. so I could have a slice of automotive history if I do it. Thing is though......will it be a white elephant because of the heavy handedness of the green brigade and thus suffer extinction through being too too too costly to run or will it be something the real appreciators of this marque will pay a small premium to have in the future? Will I live long enough in any event? So what's your views? Tell me what to do? (politely please!) I'd like to know how you all feel about this. Is the D2 likely to be a lusted after example of the S8 marque? or will it be that fantastic 'lambo' engine? Help me make my decision. Thank you my fellow 8'ers
SINGH
The D2 model is very rare, especially in S8 form, so if your looking for a future classic I reckon you might as well stick with the D2 over the D3. I see a few D3 models around nowadays. Where did you hear about Audi not making another S8? I reckon that's just auto express or some other motor mag spreading rumours, its what the media do best. They probably will as BMW and Mercedes have just released some super fast versions of the 7 series and S Class. I think you should have a drive in the 08 S8 and see if you fall for it? Physche on here has a D3 so he will be able to help more, I've only ever driven the D2.
cruiser647
I think Craigyb has an S8 too. Bah! Keep the S8 and buy the S8 too!
garcon magnifique
I'm hoping my Subaru gives me no reason to have to visit my dealer in the near future. They have a prestige section, usually full of 911s and Fezzas, and at the moment they have in a MY2008 facelift S8 in Daytona. There's no way I can go there while it's in stock, cos I have this awful feeling I'd end up accidentally buying it. In your shoes, if I could honestly afford to buy and run a D3 S8 I'd be swapping my D2 for it tomorrow. The D2's a lovely car and all that, but the D3 is oh so much more. PsYcHe
If it's a 2008, then most of the electronic gremlins should be minimised and you'll have the warranty just in case. The D3 S8 is a beast And I'm saving up for that to be my next car. D3s are a completely different car to D2s, more refined, but you do lose some of the feel of connection with the road and if you're a gadget man, there's no comparison! Take a test drive and see what you think. If you're lucky it'll have the 3G MMI system too which is much better and seems to be less complex (in terms of components) than the 2G system.
