pingpongpo
I've just replaced the front discs and pads on my car and I purchased original parts from VW. I didn't removed the protective coating (grey paint??) from the discs as I thought the the pads would clean it off as it looked very thin but I'm now worried that I should have removed it somehow first and that I've borked my new pads I've driven it along the road and the discs have cleaned up as you would expect but I don't think the brakes are as efficient as they should be albeit that they are working....how long do they take to get to maximum efficiency? Help!! :/
Tipex
Couple hundred miles to bed in, they'll be fine.
pingpongpo
Couple hundred miles to bed in, they'll be fine. I do hope you're right. I've gone and got some brake cleaner to clean the pads with so if I get the chance I'll have them off again tomorrow and see what the pads are like to ease my paranoia. steve2
Pads always take a while to bed in, gentle braking for the first 100 miles is the way to go
pingpongpo
Just an update for those of you who are interested....I didn't get a chance to put brake cleaner on the discs in the end (kids eh?) took it easy on the brakes (as normal anyhoooo) and they seem to be fine now; no wobble, no vibration and brake efficiency seems great.
