Subaru Impreza STI Cosworth

Coming to a council estate near you soon: +++

I doubt it. General consensus is that this MAY be a more "factory" version of the work that Litchfield have been doing on the T20 and T25; figs I've seen are 415+ BHP; a shed load of torque and 0-60 under 4 seconds; this will eat my old WR1 for breckie and put it in the truly silly arena of super cars.

Do I want one; Yep; can I afford one; nope...

Quick google came up with this from 5th Gear.

amazing subaru impreza by cosworth, faster than a ferrari F430, and a 911 GT3.

415 HP

0-60 mps in 3.8 seconds

I assume they mena faster to 60; I doubt it has the legs on them at max speed.

The Litchfield Type 25 uses an engine modified by Cosworth Inc. so there could be a link.

I'd take those 5th Gear figures with a pinch of salt until the official launch, but rumours would certainly suggest BHP and list price both start with a 4. Which, if we're honest, is going to make it a pretty exclusive car - there are only a certain number of people who'd be willing to spend over 40k on an Impreza.

P.S. If I remember rightly, if it matches the Litchfield T25's 0-100mph time that'll put it alongside a Porsche Carrera GT...

I think build quality is on a par (especially bearing in mind the number of stories of rattles in MkV Golfs). It's just that some of the materials used aren't of the same 'soft touch' quality as a VW. The hard plastic door cards in the Impreza (same from 10 grand 1.5R to 30 grand STI) don't exactly shout 'luxury'...

garcon, will the noise from the engine drown out the squeaks and rattles and noise made by bits of trim falling off and is it true the body panels are made from the same cack as the interior?

I'm sure it'll go like stink but then again, so does a Cayenne Turbo S :roflmao:

Ahh but you'll be laughing on the other side of your faces in a few years, when the Subaru interior still looks like the day it was new, while all your vag products have peeled off all the soft touch coating to leave a horrifically manky interior!

Even the 'metal' bits of trim in Vag cars are just plastic, coated with a thin film of metal feeling stuff, we're forever replacing trim on the VAG cars because it looks so rough.

Pardon? I'm afraid I've gone a little deaf since buying this car... :P

The Cayenne Turbo S might "go like stink" for a bus, but it's as slow as a real bus compared to an STI 330S.

I imagine... ;)

Seriously? Or are you on the wind up  The vast majority of cars I have ever owned have been VAG, well VW to be precise and I couldn't disagree with you more. I never had any problems whatsoever with the quality of the materials. Nothing peeled off as you suggested. They are superb quality; well the cars I had were, but they were only ever 2 years old or less and kept in concours condition. I really fail to see how the Subaru interior can be better quality than VAG and I am a fan of the STi and other Subarus for that matter, but come on. Have you forgotten about Audi quality? +++

Sadly not on a wind up, everyone bangs on about VW/Audi quality, but conveniently forgets all the warranty work they've had done!

We've got VW's, Audi's and Skodas on the fleet, and they are all the same, really cheap nasty plastic covered in a thin film of rubberised stuff or chrome/metal coating, and after a bit of use, it starts degrading and peeling, and looks really rough.

If you've been involved with VW's for a while you'll know it's a common complaint, it always comes up on The forums.

In terms of reliability, In our experience VAG is worse than the others in it's sector (Ford/Vauxhall), not in terms of mechanical breakdown though, we might get a Ford gearbox go for example, but that'll be the only thing that goes wrong in it's life, whereas most of the vag cars are plauged with niggly faults.

Take the new passat for example, they keep eating turbos, and once they've had a new turbo (under warranty) the engine is almost guaranteed to seize within the next 20k.

Nope. As I said, I've never had any problems ansd I've had MKI, II, IV and V. When I test drove the STi, I was seriously tempted, but looking at the quality of the build, I stayed with the GTI. I PM'd garcon to get his view on the car and we exchange thoughts including the quality. Close the doors of a STi and an GTI and you'll not only feel the difference, but hear the difference. The VW feels and sounds solid - better material and/or the engineering/finish is better? Sounds logical to me and that's why I perceive this as better quality. The paint on the STi wasn't anywhere near the finish of the VW in terms of depth and quality. It was the same on my wife's '09 Swift Sport. The doors were tinny and road grime clung to the paintwork. It seemed as if there was only 4 or 5 coats of paint and 1 of top coat. Compared to the VW, it was night and day. I honestly cannot compute how VAG cars can be perceived to labelled poor quality. In any case, each to their own and I respect you opinion +++

It sounds worse than it actually is, but those are the findings we've had, I think the whole thing with VAG is that they have engineered this 'quality' feel to the cars, I.e. The sound the door shutting makes, the feel of the dash etc, but underneath, it's not actually any better.

The doors on a VW clunk shut because VW have designed parts to give them that sound, not because they are any better quality than the doors on anything else.

I realise I'm pissing against the wind having this opinion on a predominantly VAG forum, as without wishing to cause offence, someone like you who is obviously a VW fan, will always see things through rose tinted spectacles.

I don't have anything against VAG products, in fact I like a lot of them very much, but having personally owned several, and as a family we still do own several, plus the cab fleet which I would estimate we have about 70 odd VAG cars, the results speak for themselves.

Looking at it objectively, I guess I would have to say, the VAG products are no worse than their rivals, but certainly no better, and not on par with the real quality brands like BMW and (shock horror, don't believe everything JD Power say) Mercedes.

Subaru has finally released initial details as well as a set of teaser photos of its highly anticipated collaboration with famed engine-builder Cosworth. The special edition model is called the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 and it will go on sale in the UK (or Europe, Subaru didn't clarify) this June in a limited run of just 75 examples.

The Japanese automaker said that Cosworth has fine-tuned the standard Impreza WRX STI's 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, boosting output from 300HP at 6,000 rpm to 400HP at 5,750 rpm.

The result is a supercar-like 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of just 3.7 seconds. That's compared to the stock Impreza WRX STI's time of 5.2 seconds.

Engine-mods aside, Subaru reported that the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 will feature a bespoke brake package with six-pot callipers and 355mm discs at the front developed in partnership with AP Racing, an upgraded suspension and a new sport exhaust system.

The automaker added that the Cosworth edition of the Impreza STI also benefits from bespoke interior and exterior styling treats, without getting into any more details.

Subaru said that it will release full technical specs, photos and information on pricing closer to the car's on-sale date.

They need to make it an unlimited non special edition.

I want one, but with only 75 being made, I'll never get one, they will hold their value too well and I'll not sneak that much cash past the mrs!

Well, not till the house is finished anyway.
