Remap effecting steering feel?

Hi,

I've recently had my E90 BMW 330d saloon remapped. The power increase is evident & the torque make it more driveable everyday with less gear changes. Though i feel the steering has become very light & i just don't get the same feel as i did before the remap from the cars steering. It's very evident when going round sweeping corners when normally the feedback was strong & it doesn't feel the same. I have changed the tyres from Bridgestone potenza runflats to Michelin PS3's a couple of months ago but i don't feel that the steering feel & feedback changed as much with these new tyres as with the remap.

Can remaps also alter the steering feel & feedback you get? Has anyone got any experiences with this happening after remaps?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Andrew

I don't think so....

Have you got the Servotronic (or whatever its called) variable assistance steering? Perhaps this is on the blink?

I haven't had my car mapped but occasionally think the steering is lighter/heavier than normal (and mine, in theory should just be switchable and that's it).

Having said that, it is electric, it is variable and so there will be parameters. What I wouldn't expect is that a remap would get involved with any of this.

Thanks Mollox,

I believe i do have, i know it was standard until March 09 on all models to save money over active steering. I did think that the remap wouldn't effect it, just feels different from the usual incisive feel i get. Could be the newish michelin PS3's non run flat's running themselves in a bit maybe also

just had a chat last night to xxxxxxxxxxxxxx who done mine, he had a chat to a few others and said, under no circumstance would any tuner change any settings in your ecu if your steering was controled by that part, there instructions is to give you the best power, torque, and fuel economy , without putting excess preasure on the engine that may cause it to fail, he also said, that its fine having these full well known big boys doing the tuning for you and giving you higher than normal power and torque, but remember, the other bits of the car like, brakes, drive shafts, gearbox, clutch, and son on and on, always try and go for a remap for fuel economy, you still will get tip top torque, but with the benefit of the tuner will take into consideration , your cars health,+++
