ChrisGoulding
Any ideas please? My car is a 5 speed manual and the gear lever is 'sticky' When it is put into neutral, it doesn't 'centre' itself and has to be moved to push it into any gear. All the gears work fine and are tight with little or no sideways movement. Reverse is fine so I dont think it is a gearbox or clutch problem. To select most gears, you so have to be quite precise to get it in, but they are all working fine. Therefore, I assume it is a linkage problem. Anyone know where I need to lubricate or adjust, or is there some bushes that can be changed? I am hoping for a cheap amnd easy solution.
ChrisGoulding
I have just disconnected the gear linkage cable at the gearbox end and the gearstick now centres itself in the right place. I can press the gearbox lever manually into all gears, but the shaft that goes in to the gearbox appears to stay wherever it was left. I assume it is meant to spring back, but doesnt. Is there anyway to grease the shaft or does the shaft need taking out? What makes it spring back?
ChrisGoulding
Managed to sort the problem. Changed the gear seletor cable and put white grease all over the linkages. The gear change is much smoother, alebit with the usual Audi notchyness(if thats a word).
