alanw57
Hi - My '98 A8 3.7 is missing on one cylinder intermittently. My mechanic and I have swapped the ECU to no avail - we're now advised to check out the wiring harness. Has anyone ever done this? How easy is it? B@fink
an intermittent misfire on just 1 cylinder? erm........have you had the ignition coil checked on that 1 cylinder? surely that would be the first thing to check before changing an ECU!?! alanw57
Sorry - forgot to mention that we'd changed the ignition coil as well - it's not that.
yodauk
Hi, Ive had three coil pack fail recently and they all went with a few months of each other. I was left with an occasional misfire on cyl 4. I kept resetting the fault and it kept re appearing. I am lucky to also run LPG and when on gas the car ran like a dream. I decided to swap out injector 4 and this fixed it. £110 for a tiny little injector wasnt cheap but they are easy enough for a competent mechanic to fit. A friend who works for audi recommended i take ti to a stealer and let them run their diags on it. He said to ask them to just diagnose the problem for one hour. He reckons most of the audi tec's get to the root cause within the first 30 minutes or so and it stops them tipping over the first hour. I didnt take mine to them in the end and just decided to take a punt on it being the injector. It was.. Good luck.
