jonthebarber
Hi all . Might be getting a "54" plate 3.0tdi auto with less than 70k on the clock and need some advice please . Is it true the auto boxs can be troublesome , if so what do i need to know ? being 4 wheel drive do you need to change ALL the tryes at once ? Would it have a DPF filter fitted ? any other tit-bits would be really helpful . Cheers . Jon .
PsYcHe
Auto box on D3 (03-plate on) seems to be solid enough. You don't have to change them all at once, there's enough tolerance in the system to take some change in diamater, though it's best to rotate them from front to back and always have new on the front. DPF - Might do, but at a 54 chances are not. And make sure EVERYTHING works properly.
shark_90
The best tyres should always go on the back. Always change tyres on the same axle at the same time.
Andy_Bangle
Ja, best tyres on the rear If the new tyres are fitted to the rear wheels, water on the road surface is better dispersed, which improves straight line braking ability. Conversely, if the rear track is fitted with part worn tyres, the car often has a greater tendency to oversteer. Also, there is often a greater loss of control when a rear tyre suffers a puncture, so in fact it makes greater sense to fit the fresh, less vulnerable rubber to the rear wheels. TrundleFly
Interesting, I always thought best tyres on front so you had better steering grip. Andy - your argument about dispersing road water... Surely that's an argument to have best on the front so they disperse water so the back ones have less water to deal with (unless you drive backwards)? Also when breaking most of the weight/action is going to be on the front tyres is it not, meaning you would want best on front again?
