landy3
Hi. I am new here. I just ordered my first Cooper but I am having second thoughts. I am getting nervous about how small it is. Can anyone please give me advice on the safety of the Cooper. I am going from a van to a Cooper so it is a big change. I am excited but also nervous. Help. Thanks! RS4_Barry
New mini is a superb car in any guise. Get it you won't regret it - the only part of the car where space is limited is rear legroom other than that the cabin is very spacious and of 1st rate quality! stangoe
Having had an accident in my cooper already thanks to someone driving into the back of me, grrrrrr, I can say from a safety point of view its rock solid. The pillock that drove into me wrote off his poxy fiesta and my car suffered only minor damage and has now been fully repaired to good as new. It must have felt like hitting a brick wall to him and this was a 30mph crash! I came out unscathed apart from a little whiplash. VERY safe IMO
landy3
Thanks for the replies. Stickymango, I'm glad you are okay and it does make me feel better. What do you think would have happened if a bigger car rearended you? I guess that is what I am ultimately afraid of. Anybody else out there with their opinions on safety of the mini? Sven
I think Mini (BMW) are up to standards with safety, they simply can't afford not to be. And the New Mini isn't really that small, like the old Mini was. That one could make you feel small at times, whilst driving between big trucks and such. The new one is altogether different, and much bigger. Handling (active safety) is better than many competitors in its class IMO. Having the wheels on the corners gives it superb handling and makes it fun to drive. However, if it's a 'tank' you're looking for you'd have to get a much bigger car anyway, and you'd end up in a different (price) class all together. And even then, bigger cars aren't always necessarily safer cars... I don't know your criteria, how many people you have to carry on a regular basis, or what made you choose the Mini in the first place. However, if this is the kind of car you're looking for I really don't think you'll be disappointed by the Mini.
