B6 S4 Auxilliary Radiator Replacement

Hi All,

Both Auxilliary radiators are leaking on my 53 plate S4. I've read the posts in the forums and reckon I might attempt to replace these myself in the next few weeks. Europarts or GSF don't stock the part and referred me back to dealer. Local Audi dealer said they were £163 each! Anyone know if they are available to but elsewhere - or anyone bought them at a cheaper price from their local stealer ?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

sorry for the confusion but are you talking about intercoolers, air con rad or the main engine rad?

The S4 V8 (and related cars) has auxiliary cooling radiators in addition to the main rad. These are needed for extra cooling, the result of shoehorning a big V8 into such a small engine bay. They seem to be a weak point in the design. There have been several owners of V8 cars which have had either one or both extra rads fail. If your looking to buy a second hand one, I would try to get one which had had its rads replaced.

The B7 was supposed to have had this problem cured by a redesign of the ducting to the auxiliary radiators to prevent the buildup of damp mapterial which is what corrodes the auxiliary radiators.

It has been partially successful in that it has reduced, but not eliminated, the problem on the B7 - as my failed RHS auxiliary radiator illustrates.

IIRC the indi charged me about £250 for parts and labour, which I thought was very reasonable.

Does sound very reasonable if Audi are wanting £163 per radiator. Might try a few local independents for a quote.
