cruiser647
What real world figures can I expect in a V6 2.5 TDi quattro (manual)? All I'll be doing is cruising the A1 - up and down in light traffic (at the moment). My Bora is giving me 53 mpg at the mo, and official figures are all bollox. Any ideas? Tipex
The same engine in the Skoda Superb gave as woefully bad economy, we ended up getting rid of them all in the end as it was ridiculous, can't remember the exact figures now, but it was high 20's at the best, obviously mostly all town driving, but compared to the 6 cylinder BMW's and Mercedes on the fleet it was ridiculous. Mook
Allroad 2.5TDI (remapped) returned 31mpg long term average. That weighed 1.8 tonnes, so in an A4 or A6, I'd expect low to mid 30s. Go for the 180PS version, not the 163PS version - bigger turbo, better breathing, better economy. In typical VW Group style, the Skoda ran the smaller turbo unit, so it had to work harder, hence sh*t economy.
kite
Low 30's in my mapped A4.
benjie
Have you thought about a 1.9 TDI quattro? Mine's mapped and DIS says 45 normally, but 48-50 on long journeys.
Gressy
I've just bought a 2002 A6 2.5TDi Avant for my long motorway commute. In the first 500 miles it's averaged 35MPG at some (moderately enthusiastic) motorway speeds. It's auto and 2WD. I was hoping for better economy out of the beast! (Yes Mook, it really is me...) Mind you, I don't think I'd fancy commuting in the Tiger!
Gressy
Hello Tipex, It's almost a sad story! Scumball Porsche - Spent a small fortune on it before swapping it for a bathroom renovation! BMW 325i - Sold as the kids complained about the room on the backseat. Tiger - Sold to fund the upcoming wedding. Gone from owning 3 rear wheel drive, manual, petrol cars to one front wheel drive, automatic, diesel estate!
cruiser647
What if you drive it like Miss Daisy and feather the throttle? There are very few times I take the Bora to 2500 rpm and hardly ever to 3K. Possibly a few times a month to 4500 to clear it out on a fast pull out junction. And it will be a manual job. I might even look at a Passat 4 Motion estate as well
cruiser647
Did the Passat get the 180 version or 'just' the 150 BHP job?
Mook
180ps 2.5 tdi.
cruiser647
And more...... What's with the 155 version on some V6 TDi A6's? The 163 was for the Multi's I think, but the 155? What a confusing engine range..... D'oh!!! Choices and dilemas all around! Will see what appears after new reg change-over time!
