Audi a3 1.9 tdi

Hi guys, i just thought i would join onto this forum to see if you guys can help me. I have an Audi A3 1.9 TDI, few months back, it started whistling like anything, in fitst gear, second, 3rd, 5th - and the engine management light was always on, i was skint at the time and kept driving it with the whistling, a few mechanics told me at the time, could be a air leak, or your turbo. anyway, eventually got in my Audi one morning to go to work, and started driving it and the whistling stopped - i thought great!! but then 2 mins later, i heard something loud in the engine, then loads of shitty smoke started coming out the back - and i mean loads of it!!! could smell oil the lot. so, took it in the mechanic, and he said the spindle was f*cked in my Turbo - and the oil was going through to the exhaust - hence the smoke! (this was not an Audi based mechanics by the way) just a mechanic rd my way - anyway, he said he sent of my old turbo, got another one - supplied anf fitted everything for £700, and 2 cans of oil - got it back the other day, and very silently, i can hear a faint faint whistle, if i drive it in first really slow you can hear the same style of whistling but just quieter - alot quieter but its still there! i rang up the garage straight away and told the mechanic - he said 'New fitted turbos tend to whistle at the start, but it persists bring it back' also the engine management light come on again, so rang him back up, he said 'its asking for a air flow meter' i am now taking it back to the garage tomorrow because the whistling hasnt stopped and seems to be getting louder - my question is this - would the air flow meter - if its buggered cause an whistling sound to my car? my engine also seems pretty loud - i know its a diesel - just dont feel right - or have the mechanics proper done me here - there not gonna charge me for having a look at it cos its still whistling - but that same whistling is what caused my turbo to go in the first place. sorry for the long essay guys - you know what its like when you have a nice car! thanks..

Turbos whistle even when in perfect condition, you could always hear the whistle on my 8L S3 - especially after I had it chipped, and on every turbo diesel I've ever owned.

Worth making sure your mechanic is 100% sure that a failed MAF is the real, and only, problem left.
