Brisel
A mate of mine is looking at buying a 2006 (56) 335i M Sport Touring. Is there anything we need to look out for? eg. MAF, recalls etc. TIA
Biscuits
Not much goes wrong on these, just make sure there's a years BMW warranty just in case... if it's mapped then the turbos get quite a hammering. Rear tyres wear badly on the inner edge, so check them carefully, not just a quick glance. Spec is very important. On a 335i, it should have iDrive, Bluetooth and USB/iPod connection to get the best from iDrive. Front & rear parking sensors mean you get the sensors come up in the idrive display. Manuals are very quick, but the auto is super smooth and quick shifting too.
Brisel
Thanks for the tips. It is a manual, has FBMWSH & hasn't been remapped. Looks likely to fall through as it has outstanding BMW finance. I will start a thread elsewhere on how to buy a financed car.
Mook
The answer to buying a financed car is not to. Yes it's bloody hard for the seller, but I'd never buy a car with anything outstanding on it. If it does fall through, there will be another along shortly
Booster
Just because a car has finance on it, tell your mate not to rule it out. Its very easy to sort out. I assume its a private sale? He just pays BMW finance direct the amount to clear the account and the balance to the seller. Easiest way is over the phone or go to sellers bank and do two CHAPS payments, one to BMW and one to him with seller present.
Brisel
Thanks for the replies If he decided to offer to pay off the outstanding finance, who would he be buying the car from? BMW finance or the registered keeper?

It would still be off the registered keeper, but if he pays the finance off directly, there's no chance your mate will give the owner the while amount and the finance not be settled. EddyH
Only real problems to look out for are rattling wastegates and if it's on 19's check for cracks on the inner rim of the rear wheels and also uneven tyre wear. Personally I would also try to get a 57 plate (MY2008) onwards as they are the efficient dynamic model with associated lower tax. Otherwise though they are great cars.
