B7 LED side lights

Hi,

Hope someone can help with my LED question.

I recently had a front side light fail on my 2006 B7 2.0 TDi Avant. I thought this would be a good time to upgrade and replace both bulbs with LED type. I sourced a pair of allegedly Can-Bus friendly units from HID4U to do the job LED Sidelight 501 w5w LED bulbs for Can-Bus systems. High power 6000k

Once fitted they both flash 3 times before powering down. I'm guessing my car is not happy with them so shutting them down. I would guess this be a resistance problem although the lamp 2 watt is claimed to have 5 watt resistance to mimic standard element 501 bulb.

Rather than mess about with resistors can anyone suggest a 501 fitment LED lamp that will suit my 2006 B7, or better still, known to work? Or any other helpful advice.

I should point out that the support from HID4U has been both very professional and friendly, albeit they can't help me on this occasion.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mook,

I spotted these Plug & Play 501 LED Resistor Kit | Phoenix AutoBulbs

A bit expensive I know, but looks like a no fuss option that would fit nicely within headlamp enclosure. My only concern is how hot will they get, and might they burn the internal plastic enclosure. Any recommendations anyone might have re in-line resistors, suppliers etc would be appreciated.

I got sidelights for my B6 S4 from ultraleds.co.uk, and they didn't trigger my bulb warnings (until they failed, which they have done twice).

However, I'm not sure if the B7 uses the same bulb warning system, and my bulbs were a different fitting type. However they do sell 501s which claim to work with bulb warning systems: 501/194/T10/W5W 10mm Wedge - by Ultra Leds U.K

I've found their customer service pretty good. They've replaced my bulbs without questions when they failed, and when I broke the first one when installing it!

I went for these in the end as I had already purchased 2 different LED replacements. A bit expensive I thought, but they did work. My 2006 B7 doesn't appear to have bulb failure warning that I can see, but does recognise none standard bulbs by flashing LED 3 times, and then off. The resistors did however work a treat. http://www.phoenixautobulbs.co.uk/pr/501-led-resistor-kit/

Only problem now is, they look so good I gotta replace the mains with HID. Eeek... more money

Just gotta decide to buy from whom?
