Which Crossover ?

With more and more snow hitting the UK and the wife feels like a change of car too, we are going to trade in her 2 year old Mazda 6 estate and get a crossover. She likes the idea of the safety with child on board and less chance of getting stuck in the snow, we have lots of family and friend in very rural hilly areas.

There seems to be a lot of choice some are ruled out straight away but the shortlist in her prefered order is

Mazda CX 7 - Stunning amount of standard kit like her 6 plus electric memory seats, built in sat/nav, reversing camera, 19" wheels plus lots more, including a proper torsion based 4WD. Now they have driopped the diesel engine in it has decent MPG etc but its still a rare site. Seems the £27k list price is easily reduced by £3k if buying new.

Mazda CX-7 specifications and prices

VW Tiguan - My favourite especially as its due a facelift in the nxt few months in line with the Golf and others. Will cost more but suspect it will hold more value. 2.0 TFSI sport version looks nice.

Audi Q5 - The most expensive of the trio but nice to look at in darker colours.

Any thoughts from those with experience in crossovers or people who have made the move.

I'd say this is a good shout. It was a bit of a no go with the petrol engine but now it's a different proposition - and it's bound to be reliable. If you and you wife are happy with the 6 then why not go for the CX-7? Given that you are trading in a 6 it might make negotiations with your local Mazda dealer easier as well.

Are those Crossover jobs AWD? If not, then it would be a waste of time to change vehicle if you are going to visit hilly rural areas.

They all have AWD +++

The CX-7 only has manual which maybe an issues at the auto is popular on this segment except in the budget area.

A lot of auto press seem to be giving very high praise to the all new 2010 Kia Sportage

There is of course, the Yeti....!

But by far the best looking one....with 180PS Diesel

Had a ride in a Kia Sportage the other weekend in the snow in Newcastle.

Very impressed, as is the owner. It's a company car and he was extremely sceptical to begin with, but 4 yearas and 70k miles later he loves it and isn't sure what to replace it with.

As for the badge, "I just tell everyone it's a Lexus and they believe me." :roflmao:

Were you looking to change the car anyway or is the motivation driven by the recent weather?

When it snows advise her to leave the car at home (schools & nurseries close anyway) and spend more time in the kitchen making some nice home made pies and steamed puddings....actually you could keep the current car and spend the money you would spend to trade up on a new kitchen. If you own your home this would obviously add value too. :P

You might need to choose such words carefully and be ready to run like feck.

If you are changing anyway then based your thoughts / suggestions then the Mazda looks interesting. Have to say though, I would find it hard to resist something German personally.
