theduisbergkid
It drives OK, bit baggy, but everything is after the Beemer. Faint whiff of cigars, leather is still pretty plush (oatmeal colour), nice and supple ride, pulls alright but no sportscar. Seller kindly left a Meatloaf cassette in the tape deck, there is (oddly) no CD in it. The tyres are crap though and I must get that sorted pronto, 1 'fate' brand remould, 1 bald Pirelli, and 2 half decent Pirellis. I'm on the hunt for some matching part-worns. Bangle, it's the 3.2 straight 6, AJ16 engine, auto box with the 'J-gate'. Cruiser, I'll be passing your way on Jan 4th (early though), will text you if you're about then. Steelwind, the car is booked on a one-way roadtrip to Valhalla, write up to follow in due course.

cruiser647
Tyres - Avons I think were the tyre of choice? AJ16 engine - fantastically reliable (IIRC) Jan 4th huh! I'll be about, but depends how early!

Mr Man
I also bought a Jaguar......Whilst not quite the same vintage as the OP purchase....I`am now the proud owner of a Jaquar XF.....It`a a beautifully crafted motor and the interior is quite simply gorgeous.....As for the performance....it could be described as "The silent and refined license looser." cruiser647
I remember you talking about your buying choices and the XF was close to OR top of your list. They do look good! Interior is nice, but I think I'd miss the gearstick.
theduisbergkid
I love that Mr Man, very nice indeed. I think there are a few Jag fans on TsN now Some quirks I've found with mine - the intermittant wipe stays on permanently once you've touched it. The spare is bald and the spare rim is bent. The trip comp shows 18.5 MPG average. Previous owner left a load of interesting stuff behind including some 'urban exploration' notes. Hmmm... I have a mate who's really into all that urban exploration, I've been on a few explores with him, and it's quite good fun, He'd probably be really interested in those notes! Scotty
Is it worth calling the previous owner just in case they forgot to put it in the car ... or in case it's hidden?

Done that "it doesn't have locking wheels" he says Grease monkeys round the corner have the car now. I'll need 4 XJ6 nuts to replace the 4 they're whacking off now... Or nip to Halfrauds and get some replacement locking nuts?

Thanks....I bought the car in September but for some reason never got round to posting any pics......In the end final contenders for my cash were the A5 and the XF I also tested an S3 Sportback;BMW 330d;BMW 330i and finally a BMW 123d.....I had a look at a C-Class sport but did`t like the interior...or the dealer....I`am more than happy with the XF but it was a close call with the A5.....The clincher being the slightly superior ride of the XF and the disappointing performance of the s-tronic box when mated to the 3.0tdi engine.....The auto downshifts felt very lumpy.....although the upshifts were as seamless as those in my previous car...an Audi A3 2.0t dsg.....After testing a few diesel/auto`s over the years I`v come to the conclusion that diesels and twin clutch auto`s are no were near as refined as standard auto`s mated to diesel engines.........and finally...the interior of the XF is gorgeous....Nothing else comes close imo Edited December 21, 2010 by Mr Man
stooH
Interesting that you say that about diesel engines and dsg, I drove an A3 diesel a couple of months back and hated the dsg compared to my GTI where I love it.
theduisbergkid
Nuts off (!), replacement nuts in the post from EuroJag, The Premier Jaguar Parts Supplier. who were really, really helpful. The XJ6 on these crap tyres is hysterical to drive, the biggest, laziest drifts you can imagine, everywhere at 45 degrees to the direction of travel. New rubber collected yesterday, goes on when it stops snowing...

Mr Man
Interesting that you say that about diesel engines and dsg, I drove an A3 diesel a couple of months back and hated the dsg compared to my GTI where I love it. I tested a 2.0tdi dsg 5yrs ago....and had one as a loaner when my A3 2.0t dsg was being serviced.....and I concur with your post......I also had two long test drives in a A5 3.0tdi s-tronic....For some reason the diesel/dsg combo just does`t work as well as the petrol/dsg combo.....Like you I loved the dsg box in my Audi 2.0t and it was a huge disappointment when I drove the A5 3.0tdi s-stronic I do recall seeing a few other posts over the years where this subject was brought up......and iirc most FM`s felt the same.....A member of the Jaguar XF forum who also tested an A5 s-tronic absolutely hated the gearbox.....Having been an avid fan of the dsg I did my best to defend it`s honour as I still think it`s a fantastic piece of kit....but only when mated to a free reving petrol engine.
