Yorkie_Dan
Hi, My father has a 2000 S8 with genuine 41k miles, FSH. Over the last two years he's had problems with the battery going flat, the brake calipers sticking and the gearbox sometimes slipping. So about 18months ago he had a new battery fitted and rear calipers stripped and cleaned. The gearbox was intermittant as to when it slipped under hard acceleration. 6 months use of the car and all seemed ok. He then had it serviced and mot'd and parked it up in his garage to due going to live on his narrow boat. Now he's moored the boat up and gone back to the house and car. He had a friend who kept checking on the car and starting it every 4 weeks to keep it running etc. Only on several occasions the battery was flat again! Anyway, my old man when to get the car out of the garage after jumping it off and he struggles to get reverse gear. (Never happened before). After the car struggled in reverse it finally and slowly came out. He then took it to his local garage for an mot. It has passed but at a cost of nearly £1000! The rear calipers were goosed, two front suspension arms had play in them. The 8 is now at an Auto gearbox specialist in near Norwich. They have removed the box and are stripping it down to find and rectify the fault/s. Reverse problem and slipping issue. The car is otherwise immaculate. He wants to sell it but he is going to lose alot of money on it considering what he paid cash for it in 2006. Once the gearbox is sorted out the car will be 100% again. What is the car worth roughly? gapthree
I saw a 2002 S8 with 60K advertised near heathrow for £11,000 in the summer. It was a good colour & interior spec. It's only worth what some one else is prepared to pay for it. I also recall a red S8 & a purple one with a purple interior sticking at £8000 for a while, both with low miles. Not the colour combo for me but hey, still great motors. Good luck.
Mook
Unfortunately not many people want luxo-barges, esp. With the cost of fuel rising. IMO he'd be better of cutting his losses and selling it.
