TIDYDUBS
WOW Sony really have done wonders with the whole gaming package never seen footage let alone played a PS3!!!!
NewNiceMrMe
Wow, that's impressive. In fact that might be impressive enough to get me to dust off the PS3 after 2 years of it never being switched on. I'm seriously impressed with that. NewNiceMrMe
Thing is, I'm not a big gamer. It was bought as a Fathers Day present for me and for 6 months I battered Call of Duty on it. Four other games sat there (and still do) in their poly-wrapping. Then, in December 2008, I stopped playing it. Not sure why, I just got bored and it has never been used since. I think it was World at War that did it. It wasn't as good as Modern Warfare and I lost interest in both for some reason. I've switched it on occasionally to use the Blu-Ray player but the last time that was used will be a good year ago. I've been looking for a reason to switch it back on. Then......I change my mind and can't be bothered. This looks good but I'm very poor at driving games. I get too frustrated and start doing things like driving around circuits the wrong way round in the middle of races - as CarMad will testify to. Yeah, I'd forgotten all about that, year that was some good racing, when you went the right way that was. But no it wasn't great to get taken out of a race by some blithering idiot who got bored quickly. I've not gone online with GT5 once yet, maybe a TSN driving room could be an idea at some point. I'm playing GT5, but getting a little tired of it all to quickly now, after my initial thoughts of 'this is great' enthusiasm for it, its just a pain to load all the races and get on in the game. But that is compounded by my lack of time to play it properly with the little one now.
NewNiceMrMe
What happened to the online game? That was fun.
theduisbergkid
I can't be arsed with this kind of thing, I'm impressed with the graphics etc but I'd much rather jump in the (real) motor and find a quiet b-road and actually feel what is going on with the car, get stuck into the gears, feel the weight of the car under braking, get the tyres squirming, all that stuff a game can never replicate. NewNiceMrMe
Yeah but that's a bit difficult for most isn't it, and I can see the attraction of it to many. It also means they won't get arrested.

NewNiceMrMe
If you were 14 and wanted to race around in the middle of the night....I feel GT5 might be better than a real car on a real road. You know what I mean though, and I know what you mean. I'm crap at these games but it does look 'real-enough' to have a kind of appeal to me. I probably won't bother though because I'll end up getting bored quickly, getting addicted to Call of Duty for a few months and then stopping again. I'm not sure what it is about modern gaming, I just can't keep seriously interested in it for long.
theduisbergkid
I follow you, I think these things are perhaps aimed at those who are unable to experience the real thing.
Scotty
I bet there's people who play it in Adenau! The graphics are great but of course there's no denying that the forces on you are missing and it's not the same experience as really driving. At the same time you can't go driving after a few beers, try and take the same bend "flat" 20 times until you nail it, drive against people from all other the world without any worry about damaging your car, getting locked up or dieing. The real risk is as these games get more realistic, more people will think they can drive (or at least certain bends or tracks) and then have a major learning experience when they can't. On one 'ring trip I went one a guy in his tricked up Jag didn't even make it to Hatzenbach on his first lap. Over beers in the evening he said "I can take it flat on the PS2".
