A4 B7 DIS Retrofit - Grounding Wire Needed?

Hi chaps,

Mainly aiming this towards Shark_90 as every Google search seems to bring his name up, so I'm assuming he's the go-to guy ;) But I'm unable to post a PM directly to him so I'll create a thread...

I'm retrofitting Cruise + DIS into a B7 in a couple of weeks and I'm fine with the Cruise as I've done a few of these, but I'm unsure of the DIS... I know its just Plug&Play but I've read in a few B6 sections that a repair wire is needed to ground Pin 1 of the blue plug in the instrument cluster...

Is this wire needed for a B7?

Cheers,

Jonny

I've done the DIS mod myself. You have 2 choices with the Pin 1, you can go for the whole hog and fit the washer bottle sensor or just ground the wire.

I personally went for the washer bottle sensor. This involved fitting the sensor to the bottle then running the live wire through the dash and then connecting it to Pin 1. Most if not all B7's have a wire in Pin 1 (red & brown) as was the case with mine. I attached my live to this and job done.

The quicker (and easier way) is to take a wire from the Pin 1 (red& brown wire) to a nearby earth point.

Hope this helps? I can't take the credit, most of this I got from Shark_90 and Co, couldn't have done it without them +++

Thanks Yorkster!

So by not fitting the new sensor to the water bottle, will this take away the ability to sense when the water is running low in the washer tank?

Also, do you have a part number for the DIS wiper stalk? Tried calling the main dealer numerous times and I cant get anywhere without a VIN/Reg No.

Cheers,

Jonny

By not fitting the sensor you won't technically take away anything as you won't currently have the ability to sense when the water is running low in the washer tank anyway. Enabling the DIS with VAG-COM also enables the washer sensor which when not fitted throws up a warning on the dash.

The grounding of Pin 1 just closes the circuit (as would happen with a full water bottle) and removes the warning on the dash. It fools the car into thinking it has a full bottle.

As for the part number, I'm sure I still have the invoice. I'll dig it out later and post.

Ok, these part numbers are straight off the invoice. I've included the washer bottle sensor and wire if you want to go the full hog:

DIS Stalk - 4E0953503F4PK

Washer Bottle Switch - 7M0919376

Washer Bottle Housing - 1J0973202

Audi Repair Wire - 000979131EA

Please note the switch is charcoal gray in colour. The part number may be different if your interior is different.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yorkster... having a few problems getting the DIS to work on the B7. Got CC control working fine but the DIS wont work...

I was assuming that the only part to change was the coding in the Steering Wheel-16 module, to which I changed to accept CC and On-board computer.

Do I need to add any more code elsewhere?

Thanks again man,
