philip stead
I want to fit a hydrogen generator to my 3 yr old Polo1.4. the device requires a 10 amp supply from the switched side of the ignition and fits under the bonnet. the generator comes with an inline 10amp fuse but the supply needs to carry the existing load plus the generator. Does any body have any idea which cabling i can use
TIDYDUBS
Are you meaning a 12 volt supply rather than a 10 AMP supply??? Surely you should have all the cabling for such an installation included with the kit???
TIDYDUBS
Also not being funny there my friend but what do you stand to benefit fitting such a device?:confused::confused::confused::confused:
philip stead
the supply voltage is always 12v the load is different depending on what is in use i.e the head lights take more load than the horn thats why there is different size fuses in the fuse board
Mook
You've not answered the question Philip - why do you want to fit a hydrogen generator to your car? What's wrong with the existing electrics?
jamieg
See here for info. http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/general-cars/130543-hydrogen-generator-bio-diesel-processors.html
Maxyboy
You've not answered the question Philip - why do you want to fit a hydrogen generator to your car? What's wrong with the existing electrics? I think he wants hot water for tea and coffee for his passengers. Or have I got a bit confused here.... Mook
Oh definitely. Billie Piper anyone?
philip stead
the info on the generator is below on the reply from jamieg. what i'm after is the location of a wire in the engine bay that is capable of carrying 10+amps so i can tap into it. if any knows the location it means i don't have to strip off the loom insulation on several looms before i find it
Mook
I'd run it directly from the positive terminal on the battery, with an inline fuse.
philip stead
the problem with that is it doesn't switch off when you turn the ignition off. plan B is to run it off the battery and run the correct size cable into thru the bulkhead into the car and incorporate an independant switch but would like to investigate tapping into a cable under the bonnet first
Mook
You need to understand the load that each cable is carrying before just tapping into it. Install a suitably sized relay to overcome your problem of it not switching off with the ignition.
TIDYDUBS
Ah at last some answers........personally mate you are creating a big headache and quite honestly a waste of time.As Mook puts it direct from battery for Terminal 30......(batt live) to an ignition live relay (terminal 15) then to a good amperage separate relay. All of which are inside the car and you are going to create all manner of problems if you have not got a clue what you are doing and the routing of such heavy gauge cabling. To do it properly will involve a big strip of bulkhead trims etc junction box on bulkhead and some of the dash. Also depending on what spec you POLO is there are quite a lot of voltage sensitive control units on there too.....all ill say is good luck i hope you know what you are doing. philip stead
fitted the hydrogen generator, been running now for two months. wired it in via a relay which takes a supply from the switched 12v supply on the sensor plug of the aircon. getting approx 45mpg to the gallon but will know better when i run it down to france and back. ps it makes good tea
