........erm but they carry stuff on and off road, tow stuff, and provide ample room for passengers, so there is a point! :P

But they don't do any of those things you mention well, they are poor off road vehicles, because that's not what they were designed to do, they don't carry passengers in comfort as the double cab bit is a compromise, and therefore cramped, they don't carry loads well as the load bed is small due the passenger compromise, just look at all the one man band builders who have them, always with bits of wood etc hanging off the back because the bed is too small.

You can't leave anything in the back as it'll either get wet or stolen in this country.

That's why anyone who has one of these types of vehicle should be made to swap it for a transit!

BANG ON! On two different points; The Ranger class pick ups are not all that good, you cant haul much, they dont drive very well, they dont go all that fast in a straight line. The build is poor (compared to the big ones). Space is limited inside, no luxury materials, most are 2WD....the list goes on. The only decent one that i ever really saw of these type was the "Honda Ridgeline" it drove like a car, was fitted with good interior and looked the part and as long as you kept it on the road and only carried deck chairs in it it was a pretty decent drive!

The market globally might go smaller eventutally but its the big bigger trucks on the 1500, 2500 + 3500's is where its at (knock the last 0 off for the Ford line).

The proper hardcore little "backkies" you see all over the world from the likes of Nissan are a lot tougher then the Ranger.

Think of these types as "soft loaders" for the "soft roaders" who want a pick up!

After importing my pick up when i moved back here Cummins TD in a 3500 Ram i concluded it got to wet back there. There to many people could grab stuff from it. It was a full size and dident have issues with space and had dualies too. However i concluded like Tipex said that van is much more practical and you can even get them to look "sporty". I think if you want something "pick-up'ish " and versatile even consider the Transit cab with the tipper back!
