need help with car stereo problem

Recommended Posts

Hi, a while back my old cassette player in my vauxhall cavalier gave up on me (although the radio still worked). Bought a CD/radio player to replace it. The installation was pretty simple so I carried it out myself. It worked fine first of all and then suddenly had no sound. When I took it back to the shop they could find nothing wrong with my CD player or with the connections in the car. When I put the old radio in, it (the old radio) worked fine. Since then i've put the new stereo in and it's only worked once or twice (and then only very temporarily).

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

If nothing is working at all, I would say that it is either an earth or a power problem. It could be that the old unit is earthing itself through it casing as well as the wiring loom where as the new one isn't. Still I would have thought that unlikely but that is a strange problem ...

One other thing to check is that vauxhall wire the 2 live power feeds the wrong way round on the ISO connector, that isn't giving you a problem is it? Check to see if the new unit is working when the key is in the ignition and turned on.

Cheers,

Chris.
