RS3 UK Test

Very true.

Personally, I don't know why anyone would buy an RS3 over a Golf R, that's a far better package for the money, and from one point of view, the R is 99% the car the RS3 is, it only lacks that one cylinder, but in some ways, it's a superior car, as the RS3 will not match the feedback or feel of the R, and the R's isn't class leading, the engine note just doesn't justify it for me I'm afraid.

Some fair points there Tipex, however if you do load the Golf R to RS3 standard spec, there really is not much price differential, and TBH if they came out with a Golf with the RS3 engine, then I would definitely plum for the Golf, as believe me, that 5 pot is something else, and in a Golf, probably my ideal set up,this engine probably one of the most punchy responsive engines I have ever driven, absolute corker, the only downside with the VW versus Audi, is the Dealer, as VW are crap, and my Local Audi are absolutely brilliant, and have been for as long as I have bought vehicles of them, nothing too much trouble, and throw in I get 5 year warranty on the RS3, if I decide to pull the trigger, after a good test drive, then all well and good.

I appreciate your comments in regards to this particular review MrMe, as you obvioulsy have the "Goods" on the tester concerned, and as you note, the test itself does seem, on the "Brown Nose" side of impartial. but there again maybe it is as good as he seems to think it is, we'll just have to wait and see I guess, mind you could be the new year at this feckin rate of progress...

Got your Polo then Riz? Congrats, fill ups should be a bit less regular than the R32.........

I would imagine the opposite. He will have done more miles in the Polo in the week or so he's had it than he has in the R32 last year. IIRC his 2004 R32 only has 7k miles on it :-)

Yep the Bluemotion has landed..... done 340 miles on half a tank so far (45 litre tank) but I'm sure the mpg will get better as the mile pile on.

Well impressed and its white just like the RS3 :D

The Golf .:R32 is all tucked up :D

I'm please to see your looking after it for when I want it back....lol

RS3 on order here and I'm looking forward to it.

Ash has hit the nail on the head, VW dealers are shite, whereas the two Audi dealers I've been dealing with both on the RS3 and the current A6 and S3 have been first class.

If you want good customer service dont use southampton audi waste of time and effort!!

i have now started dealing with the R8 team as i have said i want no further contact from dealer they have been great sorted me a nice loan car the works etc so all mobile again. only issue is they say Rs3 in suzuka will not be released until week 34 !

so looks like another long wait??

When you say released in week 34, have you been given a build date. I am having the same issue with lack of info from my dealer other than a estimated delivery date of 31st December.

All the local Volkswagen dealers I've used have been great so far. Gilders have been nice to me :D

It will take a lot for me to give up my R32, you should see the amount of R32 bits I've collected lol.

Everything does have it's price though ;)

Slightly off thread, but there again maybe not....... JC on TG...........1M BMW............Why no RS3 to compare..........simples.........

would have peed all over his brown mochasins........ and his 1M "Script"

RS3 would have won the sprint

RS3 is far more practical

RS3 would have been quicker around the track

RS3 would have stayed on the tarmac

RS3 is more comfortable

Enough ammo there for the RS3 owners are Mug Magnets & Audi drivers are all "Cocks" coz JC says so "Brigade"

All I can say is poor old Jeremy Cockson obviously did not wish to fall on his anti Audi sword, so he just pretended the RS3 does not exist................

Or maybe it was just an individual test of the BMW 1M?

Perhaps they don't consider them to be direct competitors?

Perhaps Audi couldn't get their arses in gear to let TG have one?

Whatever, to claim it as some kind of TG anti Audi conspiracy based purely on the fact the RS3 wasn't included in a test of the BMW 1M is nothing short of delusional lunacy.

The Audi RS3 and M1 shouldn't be compared in all honesty, one is a coupe and the other is a sport back. I must admit that neither make me tingle. The ideal combination would be a 3 door manual RS3.

The M1 looks phat though!

I agree too... I mean, the Audi has it's wheels on back to front for a start !

I'll leave the delusional perceptions to Mr Cockson, as it was him I was referring to, not TG in general Garcon.

My point was he was trying to present the 1M as a "practical" "performance" alternative to the Caveman and Evora, and how it was actually quicker,on that basis, then where is the RS3? If you want to make such diverse comparisons based on a defined theme, i.e; Performance combined with Practicality

In regards to them not being competitors, I personally agree, however it appears the motoring press do not, as these two cars have been compared in direct shoot outs all over the shop, that is irrefutable fact.

I am glad to see that no one has actually yet disputed my "Comparison list" which illustrates IMHO why the piece he did last night was totally flawed.

As for VAG not providing him with a Car if he asked for one, considering they have sold the whole UK allocation would they give a monkeys if it gets a bad review? Would they actually say "No" you cannot have a test car, if they had I am sure he would have said so.........

Anyway, the good news is, it appears that there are still 150 1M's available to order..........get you deposits down now

The Top Gear review of the 1M was odd in that it was started by talking about the spiritual successor to the Golf GTI and this theme continued through the test.On this basis i would have thought that the RS3 should have been mentioned/included as it is also one might say a successor to the Golf GTI. I would agree that JC seems to be having a brown nose period with BMW. I think the RS3 and 1M are competitors in that I have looked at both.

What's so difficult to understand about it not being a comparative review?

They didn't compare it to an RS3 so it must mean they are biased? What a load of bollox, they didn't compare it to a Golf R either, or an Impreza, or an etc etc.

They put it up against the sports cars, not to compare it against them as cars, but to show how quick it is.

There's a lot of people getting their excuses in early here for the RS3, and trying to defend something that probably doesn't need defending.

What are you all going to say if TG and Clarkson absolutely love the RS 3? because I know exactly what you'll say if they don't!

A brown nose period with BM? What, like the rest of the motoring press? Maybe they have just made some stunning cars of late? By all accounts the 1M is an awesome bit of kit which JC found out.

I'm looking forward to seeing the RS3 reviewed as I love RS models (although oddly not the 3 - but there you go).

Auto express like it in the UK :

"RS3 is such an incredible exercise in no-nonsense A to B performance, there’s simply no doubting its status as a super hatch"

"Around town, the RS3 proves very easy to live with – unlike most S or RS-badged Audis, the ride is actually pretty good. It’s firm but not crashy."

I was also speaking to a local sales manager who's pal has just tken owner ship of a RS3. I voiced my concerns that it might be too harsh over bumps and that one might be better with a Golf R for comfort. He'd recently had a run in it. Re comfort it was much the same as a Golf R he felt. "Keep your order don't consider changing" he was very impressed. This sales manager, I aint going to say which brand he sells but lets just say it's a direct competitor to the RS3. Very honest of him.

Autocar dont like it at all 2.5 out of 5 !!! They say it doesnt suit the UK roads at all.

The chap who wrote that article in AutoCar, gets my vote for the worst Car Journo "Review" written in the Uk for many a year, not for his comments or views, but for the total lack of content, and nothing more than a huge amount of vitriol, if I was Audi UK, I would sue the twerp, as his comments were totally outrageous in parts...........

Matt Saunders you are a "Cock" of massive proportions....... and enjoy your free issue 1Mower for the next twelve months, you have earned it with that hatchet job........but I would suggest your future career lies elsewhere............. as your so called journalism, would not be fit to grace a toilet pan or wipe asre......

Inconsistency and inaccuracies in Autocar RS3 review – Issue No 5019

"Adaptive b-xenon lights come as standard" incorrect Bi-xenon lights are standard however not adaptive bi-xenon

"You have to pay extra for Bluetooth" – incorrect Bluetooth is standard

OK minor points however one would think that they would get their facts correct by reading a brochure.

My final point, lets do some maths / arithmetic

Design and Engineering = 4 stars

Interior = 3.5 stars

Performance = 4.5 stars

Ride and handling = 3 stars

Buying and owning = 4 stars

All the above are weighted evenly this gives an average overall score of 3.8.

Surely that is either 4 stars or 3.5 stars Autocar Verdict not the 3 stars as Autocar gave.

Ok OK a bit anal I know, but it’s a quiet night here at home 
