Knocking from rear

Thanked 1 Time in 1 Posticon12.png knocking from o/s rear

Hi Ive just bought a golf with a few problems of which all but 1 have been fixed.

Can anyone throw some light on this before i give it Artimus Prime and ask him to transform it into a block for scrap.

Symptom

Knocking from rear offside when you go over a sharp bump about 40-60mm orvery small pot hole. If you put both rear wheels over the bump its a heavy double thud as though the springs are bouncing on the underside. if you drop a wheel down a big pot hole no noise?

sound like dropping the spare in the boot metal to metal.

Work done

shock absorbers ok. top mounts secure bump stops ok.

springs 1 looks new other had top fracture which I got excited about replaced it, both now KYB. Top rubber mounts removed and inspected closely.ok.

Swinging arm bush replaced o/side ok (prize barred) no play.

checked rear wheel and tool kit, removed all **** shealds, checked tailgate shocks, door pins, exhaust all mountings including centre. heat shields but then knocking to heavy for them.

wheel assembly.

Not bothered with front suspension as deffinately when the rear wheels go over dropped kirb.

Here's the killer the car has only done 50k !!!!!!!

thanks for looking

So i take it you have replaced the rear subframe bushes(both of them) The big cylindrical type ones? What sort of age is you car? The other thing could be the top mounts for the dampers have been known for problems, but going on what you are saying it sounds like subframe bushes.

The top mounts bushes on my Bora were always wearing out. Crap design. In the 140K miles and 3.5 yrs I had it, they were replaced 2 or 3 times I think and when I sold it, they needed doing again.
