what channel amp please ?

Recommended Posts

I know a little bit about home hifi but I'm useless when it comes to car audio

I'm thinking about getting some Morell speakers to upgrade the shitty sounds in my E60.

I'm going to buy 4" components for door, some matching tweeters and then later upgrade the under seat subs.

What channel amp do I need to run all this, 6 speakers in all.

I'm looking at the bluespot plug and play amps, are there any other brands out there that are PnP ?

cheers

Carl

I'm really getting confused with all the advice at the moment.......some are saying just try tweeters and others are saying get the 4" and subs as well.

I'd like to go the cheapest route obviously and that would mean just upgrading tweeters(as I currently have none!!)

But I'd still be lacking a bit of punch I require, I don't want anything stupid, just some bass, I really can't believe how bad it is at the moment.

What would be the next best step..... amp the subs only, or get new subs and also amp them ?

It's all becoming a big headache

cheers

Carl

put the tweeters in and see a big improvement for 30mins work.

Or spend lots more.

This really. The Subs are wired to the same amp channel as the front door mids, so upgrading the subs is a bigger job as you need to run new cables to below the seats.

Personally I'd buy the tweeters and install them, then see if you want to go the next step.

There is an OEM upgrade path for c£600 parts only using an Alpine amp and speakers (I know there's one for the 1 & 3 series, so assume there must be for the 5)

The kit consists of:

- 1 x Class D amplifier

- 2 x Front High-range door speakers

- 2 x Front Mid-range door speakers

- 2 x Frequency switch over units

- All Cables

- All Mouldings

- Foam Inserts for Saloon/Touring

Drop Anneka at Syntner BMW an email asking if there's a kit for your E60, stating the model/year: [email protected]

Cheers guys...

I've looked on ebay for logic 7 tweeters and been outbid at £70, I'm not prepared to go any more on s/h TBH.

Would it be ok to get some other tweeters like Morell or rainbow will they drop straight in ?

IMHO don't bother with other makes, the BMW OEM tweeters have the correct connector to plug straight into the back of the midrange speaker in the door, they also fit door corner foam.

went to local ICE firm yesterday and I'm getting a bit pissed off with his advice TBH

He will not fit anything I supply, suprise, suprise.

He says to fit some tweeters, 4" component door speakers, amp, crossovers and fit 2, yes 2 x 10" JL audio subs in boot will take a day and a half. I don't want subs in boot, my golfclubs and trolley live in there. Supply and fit, cost £950.

I said I would like subs where they are now underseat and he says it wont sound right and I'd have to have 2 x 10" subs as anything smaller and the subs would be 'lost' as there is such a big space to fill.

I also mentioned that the door speakers(from reading interweb) would take no longer than and hour each for someone of their expertise, he didn't comment, apart from 1.5 days for complete install

Is he talking **** ?
