A6 Avant Wheel Offset Question

Hello

I have an A6 Avant, Le Mans. 'Standard' 8x19" Le Mans Alloys. ET48.

I want to put more traditional 18" S-Line Alloys on with a set of Winter Tyres I have in storage, taken off my S4 Avant, now sold.

The S-Line 8x18" Alloys I have in mind are ET43, however, there are more recent Audi rims that would fit the A6 with ET47.

The winter tyres I have are 235/40 r18 XL.

The current tyres on the 19" rims are 255/30 r19.

Question: What is the ideal offset for 18" rims with 235 wide tyres? What affect might the difference offsets have on steering, etc?

Thanks.

Much would depend on the years of the two cars:

B8 centrebore is 66.6, A6 (2004-11) CB is 57.1 although this can be fixed with spigot rings.

The different offsets won't have much difference on steering as the tyres will only extend an extra 5mm from the suspension strut. Also, your speedo will be only be 1mph out at 70mph.

Annoyingly, C6 wheels will not fit a C7 A6 either we have just discovered.....

So £1100 worth of Brand new, unused OEM 17" wheels and 225 winter tyres will be on here / eBay shortly.

Oh, and it's £1500 for a set of C7 winter wheels and tyres....

Feck it.
