Hi , my A8 2004 4.2L with LPG has just been written off , by a taxi driver while it was parked outside my house. After much negotiation with the Insurance I am now expecting a cheque any day now. Im looking to but something simlar or perhaps a 4.2 TDI. My car had quite a high spec and most of the cars on ebay and autotrader dont have all the toys. I loved the petrol with LPG , never had a audi diesel but the reviews all seem positive. Any advice appreciated and if anyone has a car for sale let me know.

Thanks

The 4.2 TDi is a peach. You won't miss your petrol 4.2 at all.

It's a torque monster, nearly 1.5 times the torque of the petrol 4.2, from about idle onwards!

If I had the cash, I'd have one in the blink of an eye!

Ah, I can reply - hooray!

Apologies, tried to reply over 24hours....

Apologies again for digressing...I am NEW here and wanted to buy an A8 4.2 LPG (approx 2001-2004....if not an A6 2.7 bi-turbo LPG).

Can I ask Leahcim (sorry abt what happened):

1. Why not get another LPG A8?

2. Which is the best LPG system for the A8 (which one did u have)?

3. Did u have any problems (LPG or not)?

Cheers!

Hi , I would happily have another LPG car but there are not that many about and the LPG system itself can have problems that are not always obvious. I had the LPG system fitted to my car. It cost £2000 but as I do 20,000 + miles a year it soon pays back. I had a BRC system fitted. BRC and Prinns seem to be the best systems and I went for the BRC as it was the preferred choice of the company I chose to fit the system, LPG Cars in Coventry. They did a great job . The tank was in the spare wheel well so no loss of boot space and the filler was beside the petrol filler so hidden. I had no problems although with an older D2 I had previously with the system fitted when I bought I had lots of intermittent problems. The system was Tartarini but I think the fitting was poorly done. With my D3 I was getting about 23 MPG on petrol and about 18 on LPG. The system ran well although it did occasionally struggle to keep up if I accelerated hard and it switched over to petrol automatically. The only reason I am considering the diesel is there are more of them available. Having said that i am struggling to find a decent one at the moment. Hope this answers your questions :)

Hi mate,

I have been informed the same that PRINS/BRC are the best LPG System around.

I agree, there aren't many LPG A8 out there, certainly not at the price I am after :(

Thks for the reply and good luck with your search.

Hey,

I'm about to advertise my 2003 D3 4.2 petrol (will get pics and stuff up tomorrow as I'm away from home) as I've just bought a 4.2Tdi.

It's pretty High spec (4-zone climate, ACC, sports pack, extended aluminium pack, 79k miles, silver with grey interior).

Send me a PM with a number and I can chat you through it if you're interested.

Not 100% sure how good it is yet... But the drive up from Telford to Glasgow was great, just as quiet as the petrol and sitting about 200 RPM lower on the cruise up. It saw 4000 RPM down a slip road for a minute, will do some more spirited testing tonight when I get a chance to drive it properly.
