fatcat
The ol gal has now done some 51k and is still in warranty, the only problem is that the drivers seat has developed some serious squeaking. D'you think this should be covered under the Audi warranty or is it 'fair wear and tear'. Bloody winding me up
Sven
Hmmm, if she's still under warranty, I'd bring her round the dealer and ask them to fix it. The car should give you pleasure, not aggrevation. I'm sure they'll understand. Moreover, I don't think this qualifies as 'fair wear and tear' (unless someone weighs over a 150 kg or something of course...)
Rich
My S3 has a sqeaky seat, it drives me mad!! I had Audi look at it when it was being serviced, they lubricated the runners when its the seat base that is sqeaking! I've done nearly 20k! I'm gonna book it in for some other minor things that I've been saving up until it worth booking it in. Hopefully I'll do that soon...
fatcat
Hiya Rich, My seats seem to squeak from within, seems some sort of internal spring squeak type thing...... Why ain't we seen you at an Essex meet ? Come to Chelmsford on the 19th - no excuses
mike
I have a squeak too. S3 Y2000. Only small and only occassionally. Definitely coming from inside the seat, drivers side only. Luckily not too annoying but I would still like to sus it out.
Rich
Hey Fatcat. That sounds exactly the same as my squeak! I only ever notice it when getting in and out of the car, never when driving. As for the meet, not sure I can't make that! Thats why I've never been to any, just too busy
TheVon
Anyone successfully solved that squeaking? I have the same problem - driver's seat, S3, from inside (actually at the left inner side). Solution would really put me in a good mood
s8n
I believe that sqeak is the buckle that rubs on the seat, ive had my car to Audi numerous times for this and they cannot fix it.. It drives me I N S A N E! Its the only sqeeak/rattle in the car.. M U S T F I X !!!!!
Rich
Don't think it is the buckle, pushing down on the seat base with just my hand and the squeak can be heard. I've just been letting it get worse so that they can hear it themselves. When I first took it in about it, the squeak was only occasional so I just got the usual "can't find anything wrong" sentence. TheVon
It ain't the buckle in my case either. Going to Audi on friday
S3Mark
I have a very similar similar problem, if I press/hold the basepanel next to the door (ie with the plastic panel with the seat controls) the squeak disappears. I have found that raising the seat also gets rid of the squeak.
A3Floyd
I've solved the squeaking on my S3. Basically, it was the leather rubbing against other leather or plastic trim. I've used leather conditioning wipes that i got from halfords. just make sure that you get into all the nooks and crannies with the wipes. It worked for me. I also got some PTFE dry lubricant spray (from halfords again) and sprayed the runners and under the seat too. The only annoying squeak i have now is from the glovebox lid. creaks like a goodun sometimes. i might just go and buy a brand new one and be done with it! Hope this helps. let us all know if it worked for you.
Rich
OK sounds like I need to have a play with the seat, can't do that until the weekend has my girlfriend has my car until then
mike
Its definitley a metallic sounding squeak. Only happens when I take right bend reasonably fast. Seems the leverage of my weight causes it. The source seems to be from about 1/3rd up on the left rear, so maybe just above the rails. Maybe the motor action that lifts the seat has many brackets etc. We maybe getting closer to a fix guys.
A3Floyd
It could be the armrest. i've noticed that mine creakes slightly. when i raise it, the creak either disappears or becomes very quiet. again, i sprayed it with some slippery sluff and it seems to have done the job... for now!!!! phaseone
This is my first Audi. It's the new shape A3 with leather trim, sport suspension 2.0 FSI Sport. The passanger door trim squeaks and rattles, especially when playing music with some base or driving on anything but the smoothest of roads. Only thing I have found to stop it is wedging rolled up post-its between the leather and plastic trim panels. The dealer just looked at me like I was making it up. Also, just got it back from the dealer after 2 months - had a failed wiper motor. They gave me a citreon picasso until I kicked of, then they placed me in an old A3 Diesel! I complained loads as I was paying for my car, not that old bucket - got me no where. Otherwise, it's a complete dream.
A3Floyd
welcome! sorry to hear about your hassles. Personally i'd go to another dealer - sounds like your being given the royal fob-off by your current stealer. Your car should not be rattling or squeaking - it's an audi for gods sake, not a citroen! Get a second opinion from another dealer. I've used whitehouse for many years now (both dartford and aylesford) and they've been brilliant with me. sometimes they've not even bothered charging me for 10-15 minute jobs - now that doesn't happen very often! Hope you enjoy your new toy now that your wipers have been fixed
Rich
Just an update for Fatcat, my car was in yesterday for a few minor warranty bits, one being my squeaky drivers seat. First of all they just tried lubricating it and saying it was fixed, but it squeaked straight away when I got in so went and complained. Got the techy guy to actually come out to the car with me and they have now ordered a whole new recaro base all under warranty, so hopefully thats the end of my squeaks!! paul130TDI
I had this problem and it was driving me mad, especially when going over speed ramps at around 15 mph. The squeek was coming from the inner side of the bottom section of the drivers seat. To my surprise, i lay on the back seat armed with a tin of WD40 and blasted the runner beside the centre console where it is attached to the ground, which has a small wheel attached and although i couldn't see above it, i blasted it also. 2 weeks later and i still havent heard the slightest squeek. I am very surprised as the squeek almost certainly sounded like the inners which are impossible to get at. Paul
mike
I will give that a go at the weekend.
fatcat
Mine's going into the dealers on Tuesday, so it should be interesting to see what they say.......
PaulV
I had the same, mainly noticed on getting in and out of the car. A liberal spray of WD40 pretty randomnly under the seat sorted it for me permanently.
