Where should I go for a sports exhaust in the Midlands?

As many have echoed, I'm a bit disappointed that my 2005 D3 4.2 doesn't have a proper V8 exhaust note. I don't want to sound like a boy racer, but I do want to hear something around town.

Where would you recommend I go, and how much should I expect to pay? Is it worth going for a full system or will cat-back do the trick (is it just down to price?). I'm in Nottingham, but don't mind traveling a bit. Birmingham is easy, or I could even do London on a weekend.

thanks guys

There is a place in the West side (kimberley or nearby) which does custom stainless ones at very fair rates.

I will try and find it with google.

They did one for my Vauxhall Omega Elite with BMW engine but as it was the previous owner who had it done, I'm not sure where it was.

(Only saw exhaust and receipt) It looked OE and sounded just right for me.

Not boomy or raspy or too loud.

I'm 90% sure it was this one, as I googled them at the time ~10 years ago and remember they were into classic cars somewhat....

Nouvalari Engineering Ltd

Good luck and report back.

Milltek don't do systems for the D3 A8, you will have to go to someone that will build you a bespoke system.

Problem there is that you won't get to hear the exhaust before you buy it. That is the thing that has always put me off doing a similar change to mine. Don't want to be on the motorway heading home with my new exhaust and thinking 'what is that hideous droning noise, I can't live with this'

Well, I popped into PD Gough/Nouvolari and they quoted £700-800. Seem professional and organised. But like you say MichaelV8V, I'm nervous that I'll end up with something too noisy on the motorway. All I want is that American V8 burble at low revs round town, but quiet on the motorway. Twinspark, thanks, I'll check out Longlife - close to me.

Could always call Milltek and ask if they want to use your car to develop a cat-back system? I have one on my D2 S8 (they only do cats-back for it) and I think it's great. Just the right burble around town and under hard acceleration, no boom at all. Bit quiet for some, but for the type of car it suits its character.

They sell a lot of systems to the USA so suspect if the D3 4.2 sold well there they'd be interested in doing it :)
