Very cheeky i appreciate, but anyone have a "spare" registration number ?

I use very occasionally for work stuff so can't justify paying £90. My tight-arse company provide all employees with a free PC version but not OSX :ffs:.

Spare? So you're asking people to give you a pirated key or to give you one of their licensed copies?

I don't think that this site's management would take lightly to blatant piracy on their public forum, especially with a number of Microsoft employees and contractors being resident here :P

Would suggest Google or PirateBay rather than TSN :roflmao:

I'm generally not a big fan of MS, but Office is one of those bits of software that is well worth the money - especially if you have some way of 'qualifying' to buy it from software4students.

(not that they check, but it may give you peace of mind to know you did legitimately buy it!)

As a pedantic point TS, if you 'buy' a product that has a license you're not qualified for you may as well have just downloaded it off piratebay. You're still unlicensed, you've just paid money to be unlicensed.

Of course it doesn't work like that in the real world, but from a licensing perspective it's true.

Whilst this may be true... I did buy our copies when Mrs TS was studying part time with the Pitman Centre in Cardiff - she came out with a City & Guilds qualification, so I reckon that just about made it legit at the time!

However... I do feel that MS take the piss with their 'full price' versions of the software - I'm convinced that if it were available to everyone for £80, they'd sell many, many more copies.

What, you mean like 89.95 retail for the Home license that can be had legitimately online for 60-90 quid?

I was considering buying Office for Mac but since it doesn't work in the iCloud I've not bothered. Using Numbers and that works ok for simple spreadsheets which is all I needed really. Shame you can't buy (economically) Excel for OSX on its own - I think you can but it is £65 so not worth doing over the full package.

I'd be suspicious of this but this isn't expensive and appears to be genuine, if you ever actually get the product that is ... Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac - Home & Student Edition

With regards to the "Student" licensing and Mac's point I had the EXACT same argument with my brother, he said just go and buy a student one for £90 when I said there was feck all difference between doing that and getting an illegal copy he got the hump about it being a proper licensed product, he just didn't get it :ffs:

Then I googled it and found out they'd changed the licensing so it's now home and student, not just student :roflmao:

I don't think it's a case of taking the piss if you see what their development costs were for a very long time.

I still think the business versions are excellent value for money. If you bought something like Office 2010 Professional, for say £400, then maybe you'll use it for 5 years (and many will use the same version for much longer) then the true cost per day is about 22p, or £6.67 a month - for what is easily the most functional and feature-rich office software ever produced.

Only just seen this.

They've obviously realised that they were taking the piss in the past and have re-aligned their prices in a big way.

I recall Office being hundreds of pounds at one point.

It can be, but there's always been an entry level version at <100 quid. Excludes things like Exchange connectivity.
