Sven
Anyone ever took out the parcel shelf (with electric suncreen) from the S8/A8? The window tinter couldn't do the rear screen properly, mainly since the third brake light and the sunscreen were in the way. I looked at the Etka picture, but if any of you ever did this I'd like some expert advise how easy/tricky this is... Thanks! (pic doesn't show sunscreen)
audia8s2
Hi Swen, I haven't actually had the parcel shelf out but I did look at it when I had the rear seats out and also when I changed the parcelshelf speakers. The main fixings lurk behind the rear seat backs, so unfoutnatley they need to come out. I believe, looking at mine the rear blind will come away with the rear shelf but you have to take the plastic cover off first and unplug the electrical connections and I believe it has some fixings protruding through into the boot. Unfortunately that's where my knowledge ends. Sorry I can't help any further. Regards Ben.
Sven
Cheers Ben, apparently it's quite a job... Also very practical in case you need to change a brakelight bulb...
audia8s2
Yeh, your right. If I had one critiscm of V.A.G. they make it well but make it complicated. They basically don't want anyone other than the main dealer at £70 and hour doing maintenance!!! Still it provides a challenge for those of us that like tinkering
Botang
Dont panic its not as bad as you fear, the sun screen and the material part of the parcel shelf actually come out pretty easy. There are a few nuts vertically upwards in the boot that hold the screen down, all you have to do is release these and its cover comes off and you can see all the rest of the nuts/bolts no problem. The backrest can be a bit of a to get out if you need to remove that too Never had to do the third brake light though.
PaulW
I've taken it off to install my GPS antenna. Actually didn't completely take it off, just slid it forward and up a little. I do not have the hot weather package....but I included the extra steps that the Bently discusses to remove it. You can find the procedure here. Do you have the Bently manual? It's on CD, you can get it from Betly here. Good luck.
Sven
Thanks guys! I'll print that part of your instructions Paul, and I'll give or fax him that. I already faxed him some Etka screenshots, and my friendly friend at the local Audi dealer offered assistance by phone, in case he gets stuck somewhere anyway. That should cover it I guess... I did see the bolts underneath, but the guys said he couldn't get it off anyway, and he was afraid he'd damage something. It was getting late as well, so he'll try again next week, with a set of instructions. I haven't got the Bentley yet, I might get one, tho I'd like an official manual.
