chasdrury
So, next Friday I need a hotel in NYC - will spend the Friday afternoon and Saturday morning in NYC - before flying from La Guardia. Needs to be not very expensive c£150 I guess(work budget :-( ), and be in a locality for a good night out on Friday - dinner & booze but maybe close to something interesting to see for a few hours on Saturday morning.... Any suggestions please?! Chas

Andy_Bangle
At least another 50, 150 will either get you hostel somewhere decent or a 3 star shared bathroom on a Friday night. You'll also need another $30 for the taxi to LGA, so you really need a hotel above 42nd street and no further west than 8th Ave aka prime tourist area 200 a night puts you to bed in the Hilton Midtown, the Marriott or Dubbletree all in a good location for the sights and bars. Andy_Bangle
Good location, loads of bars and restaurants around there. I've stayed at the Waldorf Astoria which a block over. You're about 15mins from Times Square and 10mins from Top Of the Rock. No idea on restaurants, I tend to check the reviews on Restaurant.com (or groupon) and buy discount vouchers for them Ask the hotel concierge or DanG, IIRC he used to live there. eldavo69
From a local restaurant blogger in the North East: "The best burger in the world, in my not-terribly-humble opinion, is to be found in DB Bistro on West 44th Street in New York. It’s made with prime sirloin and it contains braised short ribs, foie gras and black truffle, on a parmesan bun. The foie gras comes as a nugget of surprise in the middle of the biggest, most succulently aromatic creation you’ll ever try. It is famous the world over, and currently costs $33 including fries, which, at the present rate of exchange, is a bargain £20."
