garcon magnifique
Tapping into the knowledge of TSN... I'm off to stay with friends in Melbourne for a few weeks in June, flying from Manchester. What advice can the TSN frequent flyer massif give on where to book, routes, best stopovers etc? The only thing I'm certain of is I really don't want to fly economy class (unless you can persuade me that economy with Etihad and the like really isn't too bad....). Andy_Bangle
All depends on your budget ... I always fly biz Oz but you looking at (well over) 2k. Emirates A380 (3k) from MAN will give you the best experience in any class with a stopover in Dubai. Although Austrian airlines has better food All the airlines (apart from now have flatbeds in biz class with has made first class obsolete. Also it depends on what you mean by a stopover, just a change of planes or a couple days? Emirates do a stopover package, you can stop in Badkok, Singapore, HK or in multiple on the way out and back You can stopover in China if thats your thing and save 1k biz on tickets. You picked the most expensive time to go, you can save some quite a bit of money if you fly the last week of may? Andy_Bangle
You can also save about 1k by starting your trip from Dublin as you avoid UK pax which is about 700 quid on biz tickets ... another option is premium econ - no flats beds but more leg room and slightly better food. And remember to pack your cardi, Melbourne is chilly that time of year. Edited April 5, 2015 by Andy_Bangle

Lussac
SWMBO is on her way back from NZ at the moment, decided to go Cathay Pacific this time as it was cheaper than Emirates for business class and also avoided the the stops in Dubai and Sydney and just had the one stop in Hong Kong which is just about half-way and was far better she reckons; the entertainment system is not as good as Emirates though (CP 777 London to/from Hong Kong and CP A340 Hong Kong to/from Auckland).
