Waylander
A neurone is flickering somewhere at the back of my head saying we might have discussed this before but I can't remember the details. I have a week off in October half term and am thinking of taking the family away for a few days. Now we are looking to arrange a rather expensive "Family" trip come Easter so this is really just to get away from home for a bit so the children can feel they have had a "rest" Is the era of cheap last minute hols gone if we don't have any set destination in mind? Ideally a few days in the warmth would be nice as the toddler is unlikely to enjoy Switzerland et al
Andy_Bangle
I'd avoid Turkey if I was you, or anybody else, you'll end up with an SSSS marker (enhanced screening) on your travel for the next months. Greece and Malta are still very cheap, but half term week - that will cost ya. BTW Your wallet is very likely to disagree with Switzerland since the separation of the euro and franc. Waylander
Yes good point A_B I made the same point to my wife Will have a look at Malta/Greece As a general knowledge thing then - no point waiting until near proposed departure timing? E-bmw
Greece is cheap, you can have the whole country for about £5.37 at the moment.
Andy_Bangle
The problem with booking nearer the time is getting four seats (or however many you need) on a charter plane. Winter schedules kick in so there are less seats available, just as demand rises half term week. Getting a room won't be a problem so maybe see where some of the low cost carrier flying? Expedia have an 8% discount code: Terms and Conditions: 8% off Expedia Promotion Code: AFF8HP Valid: Now - 13 September 2015 Must travel between 7 September – 31 March 2016 The advantage of somewhere close, such as Malta, is that you can go for a few days midweek as quick getaway.

Andy_Bangle
Feck me, just looked at few dates in oct Lisbon was coming out cheaper than Malta. But in half term week and the prices doubled, even tripled so a high street last min package maybe cheaper. Have a play on Google Flights map view, you can change dates and places etc: https://www.google.co.uk/flights/#search;f=MAN;d=2015-10-26;r=2015-10-26;mc=m I'm off to the Arctic Circle (somewhere near the Russian border) on Friday, I'll write you a review if you like Edited September 8, 2015 by Andy_Bangle
Waylander
BTW Your wallet is very likely to disagree with Switzerland since the separation of the euro and franc. When I was a student 5 of us when on a driving trip across France down to the Cote, across to Monaco, through to Italy and then up to Geneva before coming back home (all in a week!) We didn't realise the Swiss Franc was a different rate: 2/£ vs the French Franc: 10/£ and were not impressed impressed when we realised we had paid a tenner each for a small pizza and a small bottle of water!
