Andy_Bangle
Its one of those offers that you need to book first, then tell the wife those prices won't be around for long - maybe less than 24hours.

It wouldn't bother me if they were from Heathrow, Eastleigh, wherever. I'd drive down and leave the car at those prices.
billy2shots
It would add an over night stay before and after with 2 young kids. Long drive and longer haul flights don't go to well with 6 and 4 year olds. Still a bit cheaper than going from a closer airport I must admit. Tipex
Yup, for that money, it's worth us driving to Manchester. Helps that my Brother lives in Manchester of course, so can leave car/stay overnight etc at no cost.

I guess if you live near to the likes of LHR or LGW that you're not used to that. For us, it is par for the course. Even if we fly from Manchester we'll often stay over the night before to save driving on the same day as the flight. Other than Emirates, most long hauls from Newcastle will mean going to LHR or LGW on a short flight first so we're used to the extended travel side of it. Young children on long trips are another matter altogether. Been there, done that, don't envy you.
Tipex
We stay overnight even if travelling from LGW, it's only 45mins drive away but just makes life much easier, not to mention a hotel with parking is often cheaper than just parking. NewNiceMrMe
A few years back we came back from Dubai via CDG, Paris. Our connecting flight home was at about 5pm or something like that. We had 2-3 hours wait and browsed around. It was 2-3 hours in which we kicked ourselves. It would have been so easy to stay over for a night, enjoy Paris or spend the following day at Disneyland Paris, and then catch a flight in the evening. We had the time (no work for 3-4 days later), the money and the inclination - but we hadn't even thought of it when we booked. It left our holiday, which had been a fantastic one, on a complete downer. We've promised never to do it again. If a connecting flight home is going to be mid-afternoon or later, we'll look to stay overnight in future and add a little something extra to break the trip up.
