jdehoogh
[ QUOTE ] I just looked it up in a Dutch A4 cab brochure dated june 2003 and it states that the Bose system indeed has 9 speakers [/ QUOTE ] I have always been in doubt about the system as my dealer was quite convinced that the system would comprise of 10 speaker, where the prospectus mentioned 9. Anyway, I'm very happy with the system, especially as it is not too boomy, as I noticed in the avant and saloon.
Sven
Sorry, I've not been online much lately... But there's no other diagram in Etka I could find. But according to this it appears to be definite the Cab has no sub in the boot, contrary to the A4/Avant. It's not that odd, as my S8 - arguably top of the range - has no sub either. Yet it sounds quite amazing, with loads of bass tones. So much even a - rather sensitive - young lady asked me to turn it down, since she felt it in her stomach. It wasn't playing very loud, it was just the heavy bass that was too much for her (Stereo MC's in case you wonder). All in all it's a superb sound system IMHO. richy_uk
All this stuff has been really useful. I spent some time in the car looking for a sub and just couldn't find one. I even tried to look and listen with my head in the footwell with the doors open to try and hear anything that resembles the sound from a sub. Seems to me there isn't one and I think Dolphin and MkMark are correct in that the 2 lower door speakers act as woofers. I've seen mentioned in a number of places the material Bose use for woofers and sub woofers and from the German Bose diag earlier, this is reflected. So, 9 speakers it is then for a Bose setup. I've continued discussion with my dealer and I think he's coming around to my thinking in that retrofitting Bose including all the wiring may be a bad idea. Apparently, he had a std Audi workshop timescale to do the upgrade....3 hours .....yeah, right. It would take 3 hours alone to make up the correct wiring harness let alone ripping apart an interior, removing all the speakers, installing a new wiring loom, installing new speakers and re fitting the interior. Sounds more like 3-4 days worth of work to me, at £70 per hour, that's around the £1.5k mark in labour alone. Anyway, we're discussing alternatives now and have come back to down to mother earth with some sensible options.
dodgy
Richy - give my cab a wave next time you're in Beechwood, got towed there yesterday. Sticking your head and trying to listen for the Sub won't do much - subwoofers are non-directional (=you can't tell where they are, even if you know). If you look here: http://tinyurl.com/2qoeg You'll notice " Bose® 215-watt premium 10-speaker sound system with subwoofer"
richy_uk
...yeah, I know it was a bit of a futile exercise, but that's why I opened both the doors and was trying to check for vibrations from panels and stuff more than anything. So what's your car doing in Beechwood then ?
richy_uk
...ok, seen the other post. Knackered CVT isn't it ? I'll have a word with the Service Manager, seeing him again this week, to make sure they take extra special care of you and your car. What colour is it ? richy_uk
Thinking about it, my car is there too. Wouldn't it be an odd coincidence for 2 A4 cabs in for repair at the same dealership owned by TSN users.....on the other hand, that says more about the cars maybe. dodgy
Cheers :-) It's the silver/black 3.0 with the dents in the passenger door panel unless they've alreay got the dent-man to fix them, something I asked them to do whilst it was there. Oh, and to stop the window/roof vibration noise. And turn on the anti-hijack lock-doors-when-you-start-to-move option .. 1.6 A3's are not great having just driven to the shops. LIY
FWIW, the Audi Usa Cab Options portion of the site(http://www.audiusa.com/features_specifications/0,,status-P_countrycode-1_contentType-27_modelId-200419_,00.html) describes the Bose Cab option as follows: "Bose® 215-watt premium 10-speaker sound system with subwoofer" . From the sound of the system - which both my wife and I like very much - we suspect there is a sub-woofer in there some place! LIY

Cupramax
Bit of a holy thread resurrection here but sorry, the centre dash speaker is just infill. As said before the front door speaker are 8" woofers, no subs.
