cheechy
Guys - just a pointer. Most of you probably already know to watch out for main 'stealers' but here's a bit of first hand experience. I had the car serviced a week ago - got a phonecall mid morning from the dealer asking permission to change all the brake pads and the discs at the front as they were 'badly corroded'.... So I said no thanks after they quoted me nearly FOUR HUNDRED quid to get the work done . Took the car to a local garage and the guy didn't even have to take the wheels off to see that the vw garage were pulling a fast one. 'You'll easily get another 30k out of those pads mate and the discs are fine'.... Easy way to know if the discs are worn is to see if you get vibration at motorway speeds when braking. I'm not getting any at all. From the dealers point of view I suppose they can try it on a few times and even if they get 1 out of 4 to say yes they earned themselves a wee bit of extra work and cash. Makes me sick to the core - never trust a main dealer!
A3Floyd
i get this virtually every time my car goes into the dealer. it must be one of their favourite scams. I had my S3 serviced last month and they said that both the front and rear pads and disks needed replacing. Of course i said 'no' and took the car to my dad who's an MOT tester. he said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the rear disks or pads and that they were only partially worn. The front pads were virtually new and were barely worn and the front disks were indeed worn a bit but they had a good 12 months of use left in them. Anyway, i decided to change my front disks and upgrade the pads because of the usual fade that you get wiht the standard setup. cost me £100 for the disks (ATE Powerdisk), £50 for the pads (Pagid fast road) and about 2 hours of my own time to fit it all. Like bugger was i gonna pay audi £400 to do it!!!
TP27
Had a run in with this dealership some years ago over...the brakes!! Essentially, they called me up saying the brake pads at the front needed replaced and work on the rear drums needed (old Polo). Gave the go ahead and then one month later the car failed its MOT on...the brakes!! Had to go through all the hoops to get them to accept that they had botched the job, albeit they did come good in the end and put their hands up fair and square. Was not best pleased at the time though. TP.
R32North
When my rear pads on my A3 were totally goosed and the disks needed some cleaning up etc, Stirling Audi quoted me.... £82.50 inc VAT for parts and labour - £24 for the pads and the rest on labour. Not bad I thought as they really needed doing, all messed up and the like. So, there are some nice dealers out there!
