struyk
you'll need to get hold of someone with the VAG diagnostic cable and software. It's called VAG-COM and you will normally find someone with one at one of the TSN meets. Alternatively, you could ask your dealer to do it but be warned, they may charge you a littel for their time! You can turn the little chirp on when you arm and/or disarm and have the door locks themself when you go over 10 miles an hour. You can also set the central locking so that only the drivers door unlocks when yu turn off the alarm and two quick presses will unlock the rest of the doors and the boot. This is called 'priority unlocking' and again, is activated by means of the VAG-COM. cheers!
A3Floyd
i got the anti car jacking functions enabled by my dealer when my car was last in for it's service. they didn't charge me for it. I've not heard of the alarm beep function though. i wouldn't mind that on my car. I'm off to the dealers again this week cos my cruise control is playing up so i might ask them about it then. Scotty
It's on all A3s. The only difference is that on the older ones you get a horn "honk" and on the newer ones it's an alarm "beep".
sachin
Hi guys Could you tell me more about the anti car jacking on the s3 alarm and what it does....sounds like i'm gonna have to go down the dealers!
Foggy
It simply locks your doors as soon as you reach 15 mph, they unlock when you remove the key from the ignition. Alternatively, say you are letting a passenger out, you can use two pulls on the door lever, one to unlock and one open
struyk
on the VW, you can set it so that the doors stay locked when you turn off the ignition. As far as can figure - if you did NOT have the priority locking (one press unlocks the drivers door - double press to unlock the others) and you had it set to autounlock when the ignition is off, you could have the scenario when you switch off the ignition (all doors unlock) and then you stay in the car (maybe on the phone) and someone comes and opens your unlocked boot and steals your shopping!! I'll check this when i get my VAG-COM.

Cabvw [/ QUOTE ] Dude, try another dealer. like i said, my dealer didn't charge me cos he said that they would have to connect the computer up as part of the service procedure anyway and activating the functions would only take a few extra minutes. Markpaq
Scotty, Have you actually enabled the alarm beep on a new A3 yet? I'm only asking 'cos I had mine in with the dealer today and I asked for the "locking above 10mph" and I asked for the alarm beep as well. Unfortunately he did the locking bit but told me that he couldn't do the alarm beep 'cos the system wouldn't let him, something about being against German law. I said "We're not in Germany" and he said it was something to do with the country setup and he couldn't change it. He is going to check with production on Monday for me but I thought I'd ask the experts on here as well. Just for info, although he could make the selection to make the alarm beep, the system wouldn't save it for some reason. Any ideas anyone?

awalsh
Not on an A3, however when I picked up my new A4 on Friday, I asked for the Beep on lock to be activated, the dealer has never heard of it before, and they had to go away and check, but eventually managed to activate it! santa93
I have a new A3 3.2 and just asked the dealer to enable the auto locking at 10 mph and beep when locking doors. The dealers said they could not find the 'beep when lock' option in the software but did enable the auto locking at 10 mph. One issue with auto locking: the manual indicated that removing the key from ignition would automatically unlock the doors - not case in my car however. Anybody have any different experiences? Anybody managed to get the 'beep when lock' on a new A3?
Markpaq
That's exactly what I wanted on mine and all I got was the locking over 10mph, mine does unlock when I remove the key though. I'm going to pop back and see the dealer as they were going to find out about the beep on Monday (so he said anyway), but I'm not holding my breath. struyk
i had a play with my MkiV the other day and these are the options i can remember... >unlock all doors with one press of the fob unlock button >unlock only the drivers door and press twice for the rest >beep on arming (it will beep once) >beep on disarming (it then beeps twice) >lock doors on arming alarm >unlock doors on disarming alarm >lock the doors when speed is >10mph >unlock all doors when ignition key is removed >turn interior light on when disarming all these can be acivated or de-activated. there is supposed to be another to turn on the rear wiper when you select reverse and the front wipers are on but i didn't noticed that one. On the subjeect of alarms or horn beeping, i ddi notice something in there about alarm tone and it was set to UK (i think that's what i saw). There is different legislations for different countries to comply with noise abatement laws. This is probably what the feature is for. From my time working in Car Security (6years), i never ever came across any rule about the arming/disarming beeps.
santa93
Hey Markpaq and others - how come your doors unlock when you remove the key and mine don't? Are there different software versions on the new A3's or different auto locking options in the software? I'd like to know before I go back to the stealer (they usually don't know anything anyway)
Markpaq
My dealer took me into the workshop to explain and show me that they couldn't get the alarm to beep. He said that I had the choice of either getting the doors to unlock when I used the handle twice (once to unlock and once to open) or when I removed the key. I dunno if it's a software issue but my car is a 2004 A3. I'd go back to your dealer and pester them a bit more, or go somewhere else.
santa93
Thanks Markpaq - I now have to pull the handle twice (or press the unlock button) to unlock & open doors. Will go to dealer and ask them to reprogram it to be like yours.
