Mutley
I have the factory-installed phone kit and a Nokia 6310i compatible holder built into the passenger armrest. The holder uses a multiplug which plugs into the car's mic, aerial, stereo etc. down by the handbrake. I would like to use a different phone when in the car (P900) via Bluetooth. Currently there appears to be no holder for this phone available. Has anyone got any ideas on how I could use the existing arrangement but with Bluetooth instead of a physical connection? Alternatively, if I can get the pin-out configuration of the multiplug, then I can butcher a generic Bluetooth car kit. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Sven
Yeah, that's a bit of an issue... Apparently 'they' think you don't need a holder with Bluetooth. Reason why I went Sony Ericsson. Their Bluetooth works with any suitable phone, whereas Nokia only works with .... Nokia. Anyways there are definitely holders available, with the possibility to attach a power and antenna lead. Which is what I chose as well. My setup: <ul type="square"> [*]HCB-30 Bluetooth Carkit [*]Advanced Music Mute HCE-16 [*]Antenna cable HCE-12 [*]Power (charge) cable CLA-11 [*]'Passive' phone holder HCH-33 (you'll probably need HCH-37) these allow connection of antenna + power leads. Check out accessories. The Bluetooth set works great, good quality etc. They still have to install the holder etc., since that wasn't in stock before I went 'on tour'. Have to make a new appointment for that. The original idea is/was in the p-armrest, but I'm doubting now, since the phone display shows some useful info regarding the voice control etc. But then again that may be a matter of getting used to. Forget the old carkit, I'm pretty sure the best/only way is to install the HCB-30.
Mutley
Cheers Sven - I had a feeling you would be the first to reply! I noticed a 'System Cable' HCC-20 on the site you posted the link to. Its hard to tell from the photo but it looks a lot like the multiplug I referred to... Do you know if the one supplied by Audi is generic? (the one that currently plugs in by the handbrake and leads to the Nokia phone holder in the armrest) I would actually prefer to have the phone hard wired since that would facilitate the aerial connection - our non-ferrous alu space frames are very good em radiation shields... PaulW
It's really pretty simple, I've hooked up a bluetooth to a U.S. bound A8 that we put a Nav Plus into (never an option in the U.S.). All you need to do is to buy a bluetooth kit....which has a brain, a speaker, wiring harness, etc. Everything but the phone cradle shown here (which is my V60 kit, but it's the same without the cradle): Then you pull the side panels on your console, you can find the procedure here. You pull the radio, and wire the bluetooth brain box into it like this (you cut the speaker wires and wire them into your radio so it uses the B pillar speaker): That diagram will work for a concert of symphony I radio, but check your wiring diagram, this is for U.S. bound cars. This will mute the phone and work just like your factory system. Then you just put the little control for the bluetooth somewhere....it has buttons to answer an incoming phone call, hang up, and another button to activate the voice activation for any voice commands you have for address book numbers, etc. Here's my friend's install: And here's how I did my V60 integration....the wiring diagram doesn't apply to European vehicles, the DB25 in the trunk only came on the U.S. bound cars. Sven
Hmm, I didn't install it myself, but I do know the 'OEM' Nokia kit in the S8 was not 'interchangeable'. I was told by the salesman all I needed was a (Cullmann) adapter for a phone of choice, which was supposed to plug in the car kit. This was not the case, which is why I went for the Bluetooth (and charged it to the seller). I had hoped the sound of the Bluetooth car kit could be connected through the stereo, but allegedly there is no proper way to combine Bose + Bluetooth (afterwards). This was confirmed by several phone suppliers with a workshop, as well as Audi. One other offered to 'try' it, but I've heard to many stories about malfunctions... So now the kit works through it's own speaker and mic (which sounds fine), but it does auto mute the stereo, and half mute the navi (cool!). The speaker is 'invisible', neatly installed behind the glove compartment. The mic is on the light cluster above the mirror, and the Bluetooth button is at the tunnel (RH, just before the compartment underneath the arm-rest). Looks clean, w/o any wires visible. And I wanted the areal as well, for the same reason. That's why I ordered the rest of the stuff as well. I'm just pondering whether I want it in the arm-rest, as planned, or somewhere else, so I can see the display (but where?). Anyways, I don't have this connector you mention, so check if you do have this Cullmann system. Maybe it's possible (easier) to get another adapter, instead of a Bluetooth kit.... www.cullmann.de
PaulW
Sven- Do you have a B pillar speaker? Right down near your left hip on the pillar that seperates the doors? Little round thing with a grill on it.....??? pw
Sven
Yup, got that too. I asked if they could use that, but apparently it was a bit of a hassle to use that so they used the one that came with the car kit. Oh well, it works fine, and my demand was that I didn't want to see any speakers or cables. They did meet that demand, so I'm happy.
