Fiat Coupe - you think?? Nice motor but a lot of them, if not most that i seem to see are owned by guys in their late 20's who've been allowed to buy them at last by their wives/mums and also insurance companies and are trashed and crashed! I saw one the other day, bright yellow (obviously!) with a red door! I remember patchwork cars from when I was younger - old Metros etc but not a Fiat Coupe!

Maybe the Turbo model they did with the Brembo brakes in 1999. Don't know a lot about them to be honest though!

What about a Vauxhall VX220?

There was only 3,500 fiat coupes in the UK. the 20VT (+ LE & Plus versions) rarest of the lot. Now when you consider how many scoobies you see, - you understand see how rare they are. Add to that some young guys are buying them and trashing them - what is left will be more exclusive. 220bhp for a FWD was nuts 10 years ago & aint much to beat that now. Hidden door handles, std LSD, will fit 4 in comfort. How many hand-built cars can you get for as little as £4000? Myths like £1k for a cambelt change and unreliable scare many off, and are over looked by the 'Max Power' boys as they would rather have spoilered family cars and evo's etc. It is a classic now in my eyes! smashfreakB.gif

Same reasoning for the mighty VR4. Stealth power!! Rare as rocking horse sh1t!! 280bhp easily tuned to over 300!! 4WD, AYC, TC!! 0-60 under 5.9!! 1/4 mid 14s!!

And pay only £13,000 for a two year old model which cost £32,000+ new.

I suppose this kind of depends what you call a classic. There's a hell of alot of cars mentioned here, the ur-Quattro and Corrado to name two, that I think are already classics (in the right condition).

Oh, and there's another point. When a car gets to a certain age, there's a degree to which its condition dictates whether it will be viewed as a classic moreso than precisely what model it is. To somebody, somewhere, a pristine, 20 year old, bog standard Morris Ital 1.3 is a classic.

Looking at what's on sale new now, I'd say the Focus RS, Vauxhall badged Monaro, Nissan 350Z, Alfa GT are among those with classic potential.

I'm a bit biased, but I think the '94-'96 Cadillac Fleetwoods, which are the last BIG RWD Cadillacs that are also the last to have a hint of traditional styling, will be classics here in the States.

Especially since it's sister car, the Impalla SS is already 'collectable' and there were less Cadillacs made.

Other than that, I'd add:

M Coupe (the ugliest car I like)

Viper GTS

Type R Hondas/Acuras

STi Subies

Ford T-Bird (lack of sales, means low production numbers)

V8 Mustangs

Mazda RX-7

Toyota Supra

300C/Magnum/Charger SR/T8

As a classic car enthusiast and owner.

I cannot see many probably NO cars from 1991 on maybe mid 90s at most been ever classed as classics why simple theres FAR too many electronics in modern cars that simply make them too complicated to look after anyone thats been to VW tecnical centre or any others makes tecnical centre will know just how silly complicated these newer cars have now become and theres no way an enthusiast would be able to look after such cars for reasonable money and if something goes wrong you will be luckie to find anyone that can fix it in 20 years time.

I dunno, my car is from 2000 and it doesn't seem overly complex. Ok the engine is ECU controlled, but beyond that theres no traction control or ABS, so no sensors to worry about on the wheels.

Beyond thats theres the radio, electric windows and the immobiliser, but not a lot else really, not even central locking.

Given enough time, all cars becomes classics. What confuses the hell out of me is the Bugatti Veyron. It is very fast obviously yet my bell remains unrung, but it is more than that; even though I am a petrolhead there is something about Piech's folly that underwhelms me. 1000bhp and 250mph and I am indifferent. How do you rate it and how many of you have actually seen one? None in South Africa so I have not. To those that have, were you impressed?

OOO mate dont get me stated on that Vulgar monstrosity. Seen 4 or 5 now and sat in 1. Answer me this. What is more impressive the price, the top speed or its looks?

I saw the first 2 cars in the country, both went to the same guy, both had 2 didgit number plates and both had the most disgusting paint jobs and interior.

My brother saw a couple on Monaco last week too. One was ouside a hotel with the bloke inside revving te crap out of it for the public.

A great engeneering achievment oviously, however sadly the image is totally soiled IMHO as they will be mainly a black gold status symbol.

There is no way it wont be a classic.

Bit of discussion earlier in this thread about Fiat Coupe's. I had a 20v Turbo in the Turbo exclusive Sprint Blue colour, owned it from new in 1998 until 2005 covering just 22000 miles. TOTALLY immaculate and totally standard as per the factory............I did think at the time I should have kept it but didn't really have the space. Had I kept the car it would have been a certain classic. Still an outstanding car even after all these years.

Was only chatting with dad the other day about how you don't need to spend a fortune to have a fun weekend car in the garage. A Fiat Coupe Turbo drove passed us, right on cue! What is a good one nowdays - 3 or 4k? Pocket money performance motoring. Had a play with one a while back driving west of Oxford. He left me on the straights, but I reeled him back in through the roundabouts.

Yes the Fiat Coupe is not great around the corners but the 220bhp 5 cylinder Turbo unit is a belter. Bit of old school turbo lag then bang it all hits hard. Really are a fast car and great sounds and complete bargain now for sure. I just got worried that with age and limited use it would start to eat up my cash in maintenance costs. Still holds a big spot in my motoring heart as I have never kept any car before or after for anything like the 7 years I had the Coupe.

I have to say that most cars that end up becoming classics are the odd quirky low number efforts that get seriously overlooked and end up being "rare". A mate had a mk3 Escort that nobody wanted, but then suddenly everybody was after it 10 years later when it was the only 5 door Ghia model for hundreds of miles! Not the most exciting of cars, I know, but it was mint after being in storage for those 10 years and rare as it was simply overlooked!?!

Anyway, I would like to add another car to the list that wont be to everyone's tastes but its the Audi A2. Designed by the same guy as did the TT but was built out of Aluminium and so will certainly stand the test of time assuming its not pranged as is so expensive to do real bodywork on that it means quite a few will end up being beyond economic repair? Its a real design classic IMHO and I must say I love them because they were very different when brought out and more limited in numbers because hugely expensive to buy new!

Saw a White one recently that was simply awesome!

Sorry its not the high performance motor that loads have listed here, but its due to be a classic for sure!?!
