Space saver spare in all S Lines ??

Do all you S Line owners have a space saver spare ? I've heard that the full size is standard with the 'option' of a space saver. That is not what I had , it was space saver only. Any of you get option on this ?

I've also got 312mms front discs ( quattro) are they the same on fwd or only 288mms ?

I have the space saver too on my S-Line. I read that article in Audi Driver about full size being standard - and better as the boot floor flexes without... I seem to remember reading elsewhere that the 18 inch wheels wouldn't fit into the recess. I wasn't that bothererd as the full wheel will bring the weight of the car up even more!

I have Quattro too - will try to look at the disks at the weekend.

Thanks guys, I should have guessed Quattro was different. Yeh know what you mean about the tape measure but my neighbours are used to us !! I mean we have three Audis and we are always going out on bikes !! If it something on the car that looks really silly I wait until almost dusk sekret.gif

The whole point of bigger diameter wheels is to lower the sidewall height of the tyre thereby giving less sidewall flex and thus better handling (at least thats the technical reason, we all know the real reason is cos bigger wheels look better!)

Therefore having an 18 inch wheel means having lower profile (lower sidewall height) tyres to make the same total diameter. Therefore an 18 inch wheel ought to fit into the same well as a 16 inch as the extra inch on the radius is compensated by the narrower sidewall tyre.

Obviously a wider wheel will still be a wider wheel so would potentially protrude out of the well slightly where a narrower wheel/tyre wouldn't, but larger diameter wheel should make no difference to the ability to fit into the well for the reasons above. 169144-ok.gif

Standard full size on the non Quattro with free space saver option but the Quattro version is Space Saver only, due to extra room taken up by the AWD gubbins....AFAIk at least

My S4 (with 18x235/40) has a full size spare and quattro.

Just out of interest, is your full size spare an alloy or a steel wheel?

Alloy. I got the car 6 months old and one of the wheels had a small kerbing mark.

I got my local tyre place to put the used tyre on the brand new spare wheel and swap them over. I now have a car with 4 perfect wheels. I'm not really too bothered about the spare have a scratch!

The great thing is that if I have a puncture and have to change it, I'm not limited to 50mph or 50 miles distance like on my TT.

I reckon there's enough room for a full size 8 x 18 in the wheel well, I'll have to try when I 've got half an hour to spare and lets face it if there's room in ScoTTys S4 then there must be in the S lins as well, Bet it's Audi UK being tight again and saving a few ££ on each car frown.gif

What is weird is that the US cars have the wheel face up on a hump rather than face down. I'm glad I have the UK version as the inside of the spare now contains spare oil, windscreen wash, electronic air pump etc.

Here's a pic of the US one with the hump in the spare wheel well.
