russellfray
In Warrington today, I was doing 50mph on a 40mph stretch of dual carriageway and overtook a really crappy looking Red Fiesta (F reg I think?). Anyway as I passed it, I saw it had two blue alternating flashing lights inset in to the grill and thought "sh!t, police" so pulled in front, slowed down and hoped for the best. The blue lights carried on flashing away and then I thought, "hang on, this is a 17 year old kid in an F reg Fiesta...". So he's obviously fitted them for a laugh, and probably switched them on by accident, I just hope a police car happens to be overtaking/passing the other way next time he decides to leave them on! Paul
probably a couple of burglar alarm strobes. They normally run off 12volt.
russellfray
It looked very authentic - they were perfectly timed and flashing alternately. If it was two alarm strobes they wouldn't have been so well syncronised - looked like two high powered blue lights with a flasher circuit.
Paul
obviously spent some time on it then! the little 's

whimsical_chris
Got a teardrop strobe dome I stick on the roof, believe me it takes a while for some people to see them, when they do they react in some pretty odd ways :-( Need some bigger / brighter lights and a feck of large siren :-)
russellfray
If you get caught with those on your car, you would be in serious trouble. It would be just my luck that I come up behind a middle lane hogger, switch them on, and then they switch their real ones on...

whimsical_chris
[ QUOTE ] If you get caught with those on your car, you would be in serious trouble. [/ QUOTE ] Your quite right, and even using them when licensed and after numerous training and driving courses, it can open a whole can of worms should something go wrong. Having an accident whilst using lights is a job finishing move for some services :-( As for having pretend lights, it gets people too complacent and that in turn slows emergency vehicles. Keep in mind that most of the time the vehicles are responding to people like us who have had an accident of some form, so making life as easy for them as possible could make the difference between life and death. In some cases, unfortunatly seconds can really count.

Paramedic car on a shout came up behind two other cars, on a single carriageway 30 limit. Front car pulls over, as does a car coming in the opposite direction, second car overtakes the first one then promptly stops adjacent to the car facing in the other direction. Result, several seconds delay for the paramedic.
badgera
Your right it's amazing how much people panic and do something stupid rather than just slowing down and moving out of the way. Either that or don't notice the vehicle for ages it must really wind up the emergency bods having to sit behing a thoughtless git

Hoping to go out with him tomorrow night, or at least take some photos for the sponsors :-) With all the sat nav and toys he has in it, should be fun.
