Ok, apparently there is no way those bast***s from VolksWagen will cover any expence of the repair.

The garage I sent the car to has invited an inspector to come over and check out the situation, but the invitation has been refused, because the car is nearly 4 years old.

The garage went on with checking what was the problem and this is about it:

- clutch disc is TOTALLY finished;

- all minor gears revolving components, such as bearings etc. have to be replaced.

Total expence should be around 1.250,00 Euros. (plus 100,00/month as like for a parking service until I find the money to pay and get my car out!!!!).

MY NEXT CAR IS NOT GOING TO BE A VOLKSWAGEN. THEY HAVE NO MORALITY WHATSOEVER.

Well well well... this is a very interesting post laugh.gif

I have had nothing but trouble with my Polo GTi since i got the damn thing...

Its currently in having its gear box replaced too.... and i only noticed the noise 4 days after having my Pedal Box replaced which i had to have done twice by the way as the first one they fitted was "faulty" and foocked up my brakes (they stuck half on constantly)

But appart from that i have also had the cluch replaced too, anlong with the radiotor, Temperature thingy, Head Gasket and also the Camshaft Varia Pully.....

Oh yeah i also got all 4 of my alloys replaced due to them going all milky coloured under the lacker.

All of this was done under warenty so im quite happy with the results (though i am getting rid of the car).

All in all the TOTAL work on my car so far would have cost me £3500+ and as i get to pick up my car tommorow im going to guess ill be adding about £1000 to that for the cost of the new gear box and labour.

So thats a £13k car from new where you could have spent an extra £4500 putting things right in 3.5 years at 33K miles....

I was going to get another VW but now im not too sure if i will

Cadey,

Thats a tell of wo!!!

My wifes had hers from new.

Its done 31k just.

Since December its been in 4 times.

New Clutch

New starter motor

Power up relay (causes car to kangaroo and buzzing noise from the fuse box)

Rear brakes stripped, lubricated and rebuilt

Rear alloys are corroding on the spokes and round the rivets, VW's opion is buy one and we'll give one, yeah right at £431 plus... Flush.gif The bloody car is under warranty.

I think its about time those of us who want something done got together on this and take it further...what do you think? 169144-ok.gif

Sounds like a similar tail cadey, havent had as much work done as you but have just passed the 54k mark (racked up the last 4k rather quickly blush.gif )

All my alloys have now been touched with corrosion which annoys the hell out of me as they "should" look sooooo nice on the car.

I'm with you Wayne, inferior products should not be accepted by anyone !

Cadey, what a 'mare you've had with your Polo!

In the first 18 months of ownership, my car has been back to VW a few times. These visits included nearside electric window motor, driver's leccy window switch, cambelt tensioner (inc. replacement of cambelt), horns, clutch cable (the auto-adjuster failed) and ignition switch (out of warranty).

I've had the pedal box recall of course, but have never had any complaints about the gearbox or pedal box or even the clutch assembly until after the work was done for the recall crazy.gif but now it seems to be getting very very gradually more and more notchy I feel, and reverse nearly always requires a lot of TLC to engage without that lovely grinding of cogs frown.gif

B&M short-shift (on order soon hopefully) might help things out, and when the car goes in for a service next, I'll ask about having someone check over the linkages, as I've been told this might help alleviate gearchange problems - less than 30 minutes' work as they have a template to line up all the linkages correctly I believe...

If any action does go ahead against VW I'd be mighty interested in the proceedings......

Si,

Adjusting the linkages is like pissing in the wind, our Polo has had them adjusted numerous times and the notchy feel is always apparent.

RE the Cam belt, whats the issue on this, is it like the old MK3 escort with CVH engine if its not changed it goes bang along with the engine?

The cambelt, I think that was simply a case of wear and tear, but I have read of other Polo GTI owners' experiences with the cambelt or cambelt tensioner failing at less than 60k miles. As you know its normally replaced at 60k, or at least according to the handbook.

In my case the tensioner went at about 52k IIRC, and I was told by the VW technician who worked on my car that I was lucky I didn't lose the engine, these failures can be pretty detrimental to the contents of the engine bay! shocked.gif

I never had the engine management light come on once mind you... I guess if you wanted to be safe you could change the cambelt at 40k, but it'll cost. It should work up to 60k miles though! One of the downsides of buying a second hand car (1 owner previous) is that you don't know how the car was driven for those previous months/years, maybe that had something to do with it. Who knows? confused.gif

I have just had my pedal box recall done on my polo GTI about a month or so ago and they said that the clutch is going and the rod that goes to the gear box had bent because of the heavy clutch so they bent it back but will need to get a new cluch and rod and possibly clutch cable if it has stretched!!!!! Was there a recall for the clutch because surely the rod should have been designed not to bend!!! So im not really sure what to do but i will definatly join you with complaining to them so add me to your list!

Yeh, im sure i look after my clutch and drive extremely sensible(ish)sekret.gifECLIPSe.gif. Knew about it being a wearable part was just thinking the rod that has bent under the strain of the clutch should not have bent if it had been designed better in the 1st place!Bloody problems. openfire.gif

Well people there is only one thing to say: we should be wanting to get what they have in the States... a friend of mine burned 8 clutches in two years on his Subaru Impreza WRX (you know...kick-starting at every headlights to give s__t to Porsche Boxter's...).

THEY DID THEM ALL FOR FREE, UNDER WARRANTY, BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T PROOF HE WAS RACING.

Anyway, if you really want to get things sorted out, we need organization:

if you are really interested in getting together, I'm ready to build a database to collect all the complaints, so we can all simply printout all of them easily.

Just let me know (I have a web space I'm currently not using, it would be perferct for that).

[email protected]

Cheers!

p.s.

I still have to pay my €1500.00 to get my gti back (clutch + a lot of stuff in the gearbox + 2 months of "parking" - or payment delay).

I really don't want to know if the car has really been fixed well or not...!
