DVD/PLAYSTATION 2 FOR E46 M3 CONVERTIBLE?

Recommended Posts

Can you?

Car has SatNav DVD system and TV. However, do you know if (because of the convertibles front headrests) it is possible to get rear facing LCD's in the headrests?

I want the kids to be able to watch DVD's an play games (PS2 preferably).

Budget of about £1000 to £1300. Anyone had something similar done?

Also would the TV monitor in front link up to the DVD system (I know it won't play DVDs from the satnav player).

Any thoughts?

No it wasn't in an M3 as you can see from my sig, you would have to consult an ICE specialist for prices etc, my guess is it would be well more that £1500 for 2 screens and the player to be built into your headrests. As I said, I already had the screen in a drop down center console, but as yours is a convertible, then you don't have that luxury.

Hi,

When I was doing the whole entertainment thing to a Merc I used screens that came built into the headrest. The whole unit came complete with covers and the good thing was the cable was installed down the stalk. If my memory serves me right they also did units that fit BMW's

This is also good as it does not cannibalise your existing headrests.

I will try and find the contact number in Germany

My advice mate is look on EBAY i bought a 7 inch lcd tft screen with remote etc for £100 including shipping, i bought a power inverter from the states £30 all in (plugs into a ciggarette lighter ( or you can do as i did with it all and wire it into the cars electrics and fitted it all into my day van (chevvy) as for the headrests you need to make up a frame to mount the monitors and then mount this into the headrests and wire up! Sounds easy? Honestly mate its not too hard dependent on your skills ( im good with spanners and shite with a pc! ) smashfreakB.gif

I definately won't get ripped off, but do appreciate the viewpoint and thanks for it.

It's a catch 22 in many ways.

I might well end up not doing it the way things are going. The kids have a front centre mounted TV, but it goes off when in gear for safety. So, I can pay £215 for an over-ride. That looks like the more likely option as things stand right now!

I just thought, dangerous I know. Does the Convertable have a rear arm rest? You could put it in/on there and have the wire run through the back seats and into the boot (if there is a 12v socket) or under the seat to the front?? But from memory I think there is no rear arm rest in your car.

I thought about having the actual DVD bit in the rear arm rest (I have the storage pack) but it did not fit by about a cm. That would have been ideal.

Just a thought. smirk.gif

No rear armrest correct, but there is a front centre armrest.

The more I think of it the more I am inclined to wait and see what I'm told tomorrow at Turners (Sunderland) and then if I don't like what I hear I may go for the Dixons set up.

It is exceptional value and I do have a garage friend who could hard wire the unit in some way I'm sure (he's doing my Road Angel too).
