IanHo
Following in Dieselmeister's footsteps I decided to upgrade my main beam and sidelight bulbs. I have Xenon's on my motor and assumed (after researching) that the other bulbs would be the same as on standard halogen lights. Ordered Osram Silverstar H7's with free W5W Philips BlueVision sides from Powerbulbs on Christmas Eve, arrived today. Following Dieselmeister's instructions (cheers m8) took everything apart fitted the H7's no prob's came to fit the sides W5W's guess what - different bulbs . After taking the part no. off the sidelights Osram 64132L and doing a search it look's like the fitting is a H6W. Can anyone out there confirm or otherwise that this is the case, as there is very little info out there. Nice of Audi to provide a list of replacement bulbs with ur 25K motor! yen77
no idear about what bulbs the car takes. I was thinking of upgrading my bulbs as well (as I have a few blue bulbs lurking about from days of old). Is it difficult? Did Dieselmeister do a post or was it a personal mail? IanHo
Not too difficult, on the passengers side I managed to get access to the main beam & side light without removing the whole light. Hard bit is finding the two locating bolts, as these are hidden under wires etc. Linky to Dieselmeister's post.
yen77
just remembered what a doodah i am! i am obviously not here today -- douhk! i'm driving a TT roadster hehe... not an A4 anymore. never mind.. will look at the light myself.
UBM
Hey guys - glad to see the bulb changing has gotten out of the stealers hands. Any further tips/advice, drop me a line. The free sidelights fitted my A4 no problem...
Avus_Bub
I cant help you with the side light bulbs except to say I know they aren't 501 5w capless. Are the 'xenon' sides capless or bayonet fitting? I see Phillips do some non road legal 'rally' H7's I think they were 80w I might give them a go. I always used to run 80/100w H4's in my older cars with no problems at all. Ian , do you have any problems with other road users flashing you or the like??? I went out for a little spin this evening and some bloke in front was flashing his rear fogs for England! Probably jealous , when I overtook I think he had a couple of paraffin skip lamps up front
IanHo
The side's are a bayonet fitting. I am pretty convinced they are a H6W type, but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure before I blew 15 quid on them. On the powerblubs website the H6W look pretty much identical. Never had people flashing at me, (well not their lights ). In fact they should be thanking me as Xenon's are a lot easier on their eyes. A lot of other road user probably have no idea what Xenon lights are, (just as they don't understand how to use roundabouts etc.) so when you come up behind them and light up the inside of their car, they may think you have main beam on ? Avus_Bub
Yes I'd say you are right they must be H6W. I hadn't even got to the 'Burn the back of your head' stage when he started going crazy on the foggies!! It's so easy so see if you're dazzling from behind because the beam pattern is sooooo sharpe . How do you find the new mains?
IanHo
New mains are better the the factory standard one's. Much better match to the Xenon's light + they do throw a longer beam, like it's now worth switching main beam on!
Avus_Bub
Cheers . Right then I'm defo gonna get some upgraded mains and sides. You're right about the standard bulbs against the xenons ...... look yellow! What must the B7 be like with Bi-Xenon ? WOW!
IanHo
Yeah Bi-Xenon's & adaptive lighting expensive but awesome . You weren't driving around with your front fogs on when the other guy was flashing you? Now that would be just naughty .
UBM
Go for it - you'll see the difference! I upgraded the main beam, normal headlight and sidelights (to the blue vision plus) - looks like a different car! Just waiting to do the front fogs when I can get a bulb which will cover them. I think these are H-7's as well? I whipped them out but there was a funny mount on the bulb - anyone know what type of bulb they are?
yen77
I found this website the other day. might be interesting to see what they can offer? http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/ I get these ****ers a lot in oncoming traffic, who put their high beam on when they see my lights. i feel like blaring my high beam and foglights at them sometimes. i did that once and the fool honked me as he passed. IanHo
Looked on their site, they seem a little more expensive than Powerbulbs but offer a wider range + I believe that tyresmoker's get a 10% discount on Powerbulbs (check first though). Avus_Bub
[ QUOTE ] You weren't driving around with your front fogs on when the other guy was flashing you? Now that would be just naughty . [/ QUOTE ] No. I'm a good Audi (notBMW) driver and use my front fogs (a) When foggy and (b) When out in tne lanes on my own just to scare the roadkill. I'd guess and say the front fog bulbs are probably HB3's or HB4's I'll try to take a look myself. I wouldn't mind giving a set of LED stop/tail bulbs a go too just to see what they're like. Got some white sides (501's) in the bike and they're very bright.
IanHo
That's what I like to hear, keeping Audi drivers good reputation intact. I think the problem BMW/Citroen Saxo/Peugeot 206 etc. drivers have is they either can't find or the cars don't have an off switch for the fogs; well either that or they are just plain stupid . Sparky
Looking at this page, http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/led.htm - what LED brake lights do I select for an A4 ? Do the different model numbers relate to different cars? Some advice would be great.
UBM
You've got two choices for the stop lights. The 180 or 120 degree spaced offset pins. I think that the indicator bulbs for the front have 180 offset (i've just checked), so I would guess you also need 180 offset.
Sparky
So either the 180's or 120's will work as stop lights? I shall order them now and see Thanks BulbMeister.
UBM
For the Stop/Tail light you need the twin filament 380..
IanHo
Know what you mean, I don't think they know what "Fog" lights are actually for. I always thought that the clue was in the name! Probably the same people who drive around with their rear fogs on for six months after the last bit of fog. Fortunately not a problem in an Audi, which makes it all the more irritating when you see Audi's with their Fog lights on, means that they actually meant to do it (t**ts!)... Sparky
Ah ha. Righto - will order those ones then. See how it goes. Cheers

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah I'm with you on that one. Most cars (the ones I've seen anyway) made in the last few years have a light switch that turns off F/R fogs when you turn off the lights. What is it with these PR**KS who TURN ON the rear fogs just because it's DARK??? Keep us posted on the stop/tail LED bulbs ... Make sure you order RED not WHITE. Someone would think I'm about to reverse everytime I brake. Either that, or they'd think "what an arse - he ordered the wrong LED Brake lights" Okay, maybe not. I've ordered them yesterday and they have been dispatched this morning.
