jackr32
Best Bits - 1.The Interior, Audi attention to detail is excellent, 2.Xenon lights plus new bulbs people really do get out of your way quicker maybe because they are blinded by them! 3.4th gear 4.Not being a BMW, I work close to BMW's UK Headquarters and 3 series are everywhere, nice being in something that I think is better all round and not as commom as a 3 series. (Being a snob now!) 5.GSM Phone preparation excellent 6.Heated seats - great for cold mornings and for some strange reason thawing my missus out when she has the hump with me Worst 1. Rear visibility. (Hence the parking sensors on the way)

Chav
[ QUOTE ] Feels jittery at Motorway Speeds, my Alfa old Alfa was much better. [/ QUOTE ] hmm. i'd get that checked out. it shouldnt feel jittery even at 100+. my sline was solid as a rock, and every other A4/cab i've driven has been. maybe its wheel balancing/tyres/tyre pressure not right? the sline suspension is really good at keeping the car solid even in high winds i thought
UBM
Mine is great at legal speeds on the roads and still good on private roads at speeds in excess of these. Never noticed any jittering - just a bit of tramlining now and again...

J_C
The best things: Its looks. This is the first car I've had that actually turns heads, and I often see people pointing and staring in admiration at it in car parks. The build quality and attention to detail. That reassuring 'thunk' when you open and close the doors, and the overall feeling of 'solidity'. Look at the panel gaps and shut lines - my neighbour's 318 is noticeably not as good in this respect. The interior. Audi interiors are the best in the business IMHO. The depth of material quality is there too, not just the tactile feel of the switches etc. I often have to drive pool or hire cars for work, and my Dad's in the motor trade so I get to sit in a lot of different things, and I almost always have to 'adjust' to the lower quality interiors and fit and finish of most other cars, even the 'class competition'. The handling. I'm not a huge fan of the powerslide/oversteer thing so enamoured by the RWD purists, preferring the traction, sure-footedness and predictability of the quattro drivetrain (especially in our consistently lousy weather). I love the way it simultaneously pulls and pushes you through the corner when you plant it on a bend - wet or dry. Quattro owners will know exactly what I mean The fact that it's not a 'one trick pony'; it's equally at home pottering around town, cruising the motorways or tackling the twisties and hills on country 'B' road blast. The performance (but only after a visit to AmD - see below). The worst things: The fact that the full DIS facilities aren't standard. I've had to learn to live without the average speed/mpg and trip timer features which were standard on my last car, a 1999 Passat Sport. That said, the Passat lacked the fuel range display included on my A4. No rear electric windows as standard. A car in the so-called 'premium' sector with 'keep-fit' bloody windows; come on Audi! The fact that it's necessary to spend £500+ on a re-map to properly exploit the engine's performance potential. The 1.8T seems to be strangled at birth by VAG in most cases. The dipped headlight bulbs. The mains are good but the dipped are average at best IMO and an upgrade to Osram SilverStars (or similar) seems to be the order of the day. This shouldn't be our job. The fact that I've had to spend £1700 to get my engine sorted after the car had been on AVS since new. For the full story, go here. Waylander
[ QUOTE ] On private roads of course... [/ QUOTE ] of course - i now have the speed limiter set at 70mph mind you the first time i hit 100mph was a complete accident. i swore to myself when i bought the A4 i would stay legal as i certainly couldnt afford [insurance wise!] to get points or worse speeding. anyway i was cruising along first time on the motorway at what i thought was 80mph...only to see the needle at 100 and even though i havent got round to having them changed yet i agree i find the headlamps a disappointing level of illumination - almost tempting to put the fogs on to compensate! J_C
[ QUOTE ] Welcome to TSN and n ice write-up! [/ QUOTE ] Thanks! I'll post some pictures when I get time. Thanks too for your guidance on the bulb replacement thing. I've followed this (and your 'blinging' progress!) with interest. Next on my list (do the upgrades ever really stop?) are the aluminium trim inserts around the doors and dash. I've got the standard polished black ones, and whilst they look OK they do tend to show the scratches and fingerprints rather too much. It's a vicious circle: fingerprints=polishing=scratches. I think the aluminium ones do 'lift' the interior a little, especially if it's all black like mine...

SPLiiX
Best things. 1. the things you forget - like the speed limiter, handbook storage under the steering wheel, the third sunvisor above the interior mirror etc etc 2. A real head turner especially with the mirrors! 3. handling 4. performance - well now anyway! (i'm saying nothing on here!) 5. Gear 1,2,3,4,5,6 Worst things. 1. Fan noise has to be no.1 2. Boot - well it's not bad but if the buggy could fit forward to back rather than side to side it would be great as you have to stretch over the buggy to get things at the back. 3. ABS - think it is too sensitive. 4. when you look in the drivers mirror I can see the reflection of the silver bit on the interior side vent. 5. Steering shakes at 140mph but once you drive through that it's ok.

lmmlmmam
Best: It's a gorgeous quick(ish) soft top that requires very few sacrifices to own. Worst: Worrying about where you can safely leave it. (due to the lovely bodywork not the soft top. PS: If I thought the best feature of my car was the headlights I'd be looking for a new car. Xenons are nice sure but the best feature, surely not.
J_C
[ QUOTE ] Looked at these for mine - I have dark grey currently. vagparts were selling the lot for about 250 notes. you know of anything cheaper? [/ QUOTE ] Nope - back in December they quoted me £286.82 for the six-piece kit, but I've just checked their site and it now says £191.26 + VAT which comes to £224.73 I've used them for some other stuff and I have to say the service is excellent. I recently ordered replacement seat rears (the black plastic inserts) as the previous owner had scratched mine, apparently whilst getting something big off the back seat. Perfectionist that I am, they had to go! Vagparts supplied replacements easily and quickly, despite my not having a part number as it's not visible anywhere. As a bonus, the new ones have the nets attached.
IanHo
It's a tricky one, it defiantly doesn’t feel as stable as my Alfa, but not sooooooo bad as to cause me great concern + I've read various reviews, and it seems to be a common criticism, hence the suspension upgrades for the B7. I spend most of my time trawling the motorways, so I notice it. Also some days it's better/worse than others? Tyres are as new Pirelli P Zero's, tyre pressures checked at least once a month. Doesn’t feel like wheel balancing, as there is no wobble or feedback through the steering wheel. Does anyone know what the actual S-Line suspension differences are? As the blurbs just say S-Line Sports Suspension!
Milo
Best thing: the total lack of squeaks and rattles in the cabin Most annoying thing: the handbrake/centre armrest problem - sort it out Audi PLEASE Best value option: split folding rear seat - absolutely invaluable for trips to B & Q
GCab
[ QUOTE ] Also some days it's better/worse than others? [/ QUOTE ] Yes! Definitely. Related to temperature mainly, I think - I end up fiddling with pressures weekly (much less so than I used to with 2003 car, but still even so). Recent temperature drop disrupted ride - have set pressures higher now to get over the tendency to wallow, but as soon as it gets warmer it will get too bumpy and I end up dropping them again. I think it's par for the course with this car (cab heavier so more sensitive still, and cast-iron diesel on a cab was a disaster from this point of view)
iantate59
The best things are its looks and the folding roof. The worst is the electric seats and the time they take to move forwards and back to let people into and out of the rear seats. Other than that, a great car.
