jules_s3
Hi there, I am thinking of selling my S3 and buying an M3. Slightly concerned about running costs etc. Are they as bad as i fear?? I know it depends on how you drive etc. Thanks in advance for your help. It would be the most recent M3. NewNiceMrMe
No problems at all. £170 for Inspection 1 (in my case), anywhere between 40-100% more for Inspection 2 (I'm told though never had one beyond 15,000m). Servicing intervals anywhere between 12-15k automatically calculated by car. Tyres, retail, £1000-ish a full set but you can find them at £800-ish without going to the crappy Continentals. Expect to change tyres every 10,000m approx. MPG averages 24.9 in my case. Other bills - well I've never had any.
sayerbloke
[ QUOTE ] MPG averages 24.9 in my case. [/ QUOTE ] ?!?! That`s better than my 328 Though I didn't pay £1K for my tyres, it was more like £
NewNiceMrMe
Yes, although today it dipped to 23.4 because of my little jaunt at high speed..

NewNiceMrMe
On a trip to P'bro once I averaged 29.7mpg I was very happy!
Mark Lynham
im averaging just under 20mpg, but then i am in the land of many roundabouts. I've done 15,000 and had rears after 8,000 and fronts after 11,000. Its also just been in for front pads and disks..
NewNiceMrMe
If I took the Tunnel route to work more often it would dip to about 21mpg. But then again thats still for 40mins almost...
MOSE
I've never seen my MPG rise above 20.
NewNiceMrMe
Jesus - you live on a circuit or something?! I once had a Jag like that. Filled it up and by the time I had paid for the fuel at the counter and got back to the car it had drank 6 gallons...
sayerbloke
A guy at work used to own a Jag in the 80s. He put a sign on it that said "The car is paid for, it`s the petrol that is on HirePurchase!"
NewNiceMrMe
Worst thing is this was 2.5 V6 X Type - returning 17.2mpg. Worst car (or close to) I've ever had.

MOSE
My Lister XJS used to average about 10/15 mpg. Glad petrol was cheaper then. Lucky if I get 20mpg from the M3, but having said that, its mainly getting driven around town. 316tiES is getting about 45/50mpg and my Espace does about 500 per tank. My dad had an E-type Series II 4.2 when I was a kid that did about 5mpg, and a Ferrari (cant remember model number) that did about 10. The good old days of cheaper petrol.
