ajh
A colleague has an M3 Cab (circa S-reg) with the sequential semi-auto box - he has a problem in that it does not engage first gear when he stops. BMW stealer tells him they will need to replace THREE ECU units at a cost of £450 EACH! Surely the fault lies with a single component!? Any ideas folks?? Anyone know a BMW gearbox specialist near Chester?
jbomz3
That don't supprise me with a dealer , the only thing they're interested in is emptying your wallet . I know of "All Gears" 01909 478581 , they're in worksop though , in Nott's but get your mate to give 'em a ring they've been in 'total bmw' i spoke to 'em before they're really helpful . JJ . jbomz3
Yeah , let me know how he gets on , it's annoying when dealers seem not to want to help you they either won't or can't , i think the latter . JJ .
ajh
Thanks for the advice JJ - he has persuaded the non-BMW dealer that supplied it that they should pay for the BMW garage to repair it, even though the aftermarket warranty only goes to £1000. Whether the BMW dealer CAN fix it will be interesting!!
jbomz3
Did he try all gears ? is it something they couldn't do ? He was quite knowledgable on the zf in mine "worst gearboxes bm' ever used" was his quote . Still it's ok now (fingers crossed) . JJ .
Thorburn
the first generation 5-speed SMG box as used in the E36 M3 SMG is supposed to be pretty dire, your probably better off selling it and getting a manual, the SMG isn't a slick shifter and its prone to going wrong.
