A4 cabriolet Automatic

Not sure how many of you have got autos but this may be of interest. My Girlfriend has an A4 Cab TDI Automatic and we have recently noticed it seems to rev quite high before much happens (a bit like a clutch slipping on a manual). More recently it has started to judder slightly. I started to suspect the gearbox so we booked it in for this morning.

Apparently there is a well known problem with the autos and the fix is to add an additional plate to the gearbox/clutch (not really sure as going from what the missus said).

Either way they are sorting it out. Just thought some of you may be experiencing this sort of behaviour.

Hope it helps

Mat

Yeah been there and done that and ended up having a new CVT fitted !, exactly the same problems you encountered. Covered 40k now since I had it replaced and it has been fine. touch wood smashfreakB.gif

Wouldn't mind knowing how much Audi have spent replacing CVTs and steering racks for A4s over the last couple of years crazy.gif

Had new CVT last year and in last few weeks mine has started to judder, not all the time but particlularly when pulling off slowly.

As for steering, mine now makes a clunking/knocking noise inside the cabin over every bump! That compliments the clunking underneith which I've had since day one and the numerous attempts to fix it haven't worked! sportifs2.gif

But hey that's what BOSE if for, drown the noises out laugh.gif

Bearra, I had that clunking noise over every bump, absolutely convinced it was front drivers side suspension problem.

Dealer eventually tracked it down to something in the windscreen header rail and fixed it!

Amazing how your brain can convince you the noise is coming from one area when its actually from somewhere else.

Might be worth dropping the roof and seeing if it still does it in case its the same thing. 169144-ok.gif

Thanks Ari

I'm putting a list together to give Audi a final chance to correct the problems. Would try roof down as it was sunny 10 minutes a go, but now it's a snow blizard outside, not that that has ever stopped you!! Will mention the header rail, if that works can you work out the clunking underneith. You clearly know more than the Stealers, I think Audi should be offering you a job myself, someone who knows what their talking about would be a refreshing change!!

Ari checked again this morning and you are right, if I move the visor out the wayand lean forward the clunking is from the header rail!

That's freaky!! EEK2.GIF

Is there a common cause of the fault that I can suggest to the dealer?

It is freaky isn't it? I'd have put money that it was front suspension that was knocking. blush.gif

To be honest I've no idea, it was just what the dealer told me (ie it was coming from there).

Try dropping the hood and see if it still does it, mine stopped with the top down (and oddly stayed stopped when I raised it again although the dealer had a fiddle around in there anyway in order to stop it coming back).

I'm currently jumping through hoops with Audi on this one. Despite one of the Technicians saying its a known problem and the only fix they have found is to replace the transmission, they are still adament that they have to change the transmission oil, strip the box, empty the ashtray etc. So far its been in twice, once for a day, then for 2 days. They then advised me that I should bring it back in 10,000 miles so they can check the oil!!!

Needless to say I threw my toys out of the pram, its now booked in for a further 5 days, and they have been given clear instructions I dont want it till its back!

Rant over with..................for now!

I empathise !!

Been there

It's very annoying when you have to keep going back! But nope not back once, first a day or 2 for them to spend 5 minutes looking at it, then a week or so to resolve it.

Try phoning Audi UK if you're not happy with the results, they can't do anything but have some clout.

I'm about to put mine into the dealers with a list of everything still outstanding (including CVT) and ask Audi UK to provivde a comparable courtesy car. I don't want mine back until all the bugs are fixed. Their last chance before I speak to a solicitor and start the rejection procedure.

Sorry you have had crappy customer care. Seems to be just luck sometimes on which garage you go to. Still havent heard from our dealer yet but he is meant to be ringing when the parts are in stock. We are also hearing what sounds like a wheel bearing noise from the font drivers side, the dealer reckons it's probably related but only time will tell. Will let you know how it goes. Cheers guys 169144-ok.gif

Have to agree, do love the car. Although wish people would stop talking about changing to cabs, as I am sorely tempted, especially if this problem drags on!

I was thinking earlier what I would actually change to if I got rid of the A4, and to be honest I couldnt think of anything. Possibly the new 3 series, but I've had similar problems with BMW after sales.

Mmm, so maybe a cab then.......

Go for it!

If I don't get a successful resolution I'm thinking of going for a Saab, now I've said it, that should stir a few opinions EEK2.GIF

If I get a succesful rejection, been thinking to upgrade to S4 cab or 3.0Q cab - not that I don't want diesel anymore, just want rid of CVT. My ideal would be 2.5TDi or 3.0Tdi (I wish) with tiptronic or DSG and quattro but no can do

Chav - only just noticed your updated sig! Can you only manage 20" spinners! I was appalled you didn't have a neon underlighter or footwell neons! 169144-ok.gif

The signature can only be 250 characters.....

So I couldn't mention the 747 Wing on the rear (with working Rudder control), The pink neon underlighters, the Xenon footwell lights, the Xenon vanity mirror lights, the Xenon ashtray light, the roll bar, the Rally Harnesses, the nitrous-oxide boosted air-conditioning, the K05 tri-turbo (generating 600bhp @ 2500rpm), the 5000watt 10.1 THX surround sound system with quad 18" subs, and a 4-hydraulic-drive supercharged roof motor system, that can get the roof from open to closed in just 2.1 seconds

boyakasha!
