Basil_Brush
Had a look at an Audi A2 2002/52 reg 1.4 petrol today. I couldn't find the spare wheel. A bottle of puncture filler and a electric pump appears to be Audi's solution. The 2005 brochure shows a motorbike style temporary spare tyre in the boot. But the boot (under the false floor) contains the battery and tools. I assume that the newer A2's have a second false floor in the boot under which the temporary spare lives. Can anyone enlighten me as to the situation concerning the spare tyre on Audi A2's ?
ScottishS4
That space where the battery is is re-designed. The battery and tools sit in a foam mould on top of the spare wheel. It is an option on the A2, not a standard feature.
shao_khan
Yep you have to order spare wheel as a factory option - it used to be a no cost option as well. I actually have a A2 spare in the garage, so if you do want one I am sure I could be tempted to part with it.
Basil_Brush
Thanks for the info. The garage owner wasn't too impressed when I removed the lid to the secret compartment under the passenger floor looking for the elusive spare tyre. The garage owner tried telling me that the black box (under the passenger floor) was the battery. I told him the battery was in the boot but he didn't believe me. The black box looks like the electronic ignition system to me. Now I see why they have a deeper floor in the rear - it's because there's not enough room under the bonnet for all the electrics so they've put the electrics under the floor. The Audi A2 is a bit too weird for me. I'll stick for Golf's.
shao_khan
I actually loved the A2, only sold mine because it was petrol and not diesel (well maybe I had had it a whiel as well) - the oilburners are much better drive. Overall thought I was suprised how good ownership was, easy to use, park and comfy for 4 adults.
joeynoodles
Hey, first time on the forum here. I've been looking for the spare in the new 2000 a2 I've just bought for my wife. Should it have one? If not how much are they and where do they go when you've got one! What's all this about a collapsable spare as welll? Help! Thanks! shao_khan
Welcoem to Tyresmoke. No they dont come with a spare as standard, it was a factory fit option, basically takes up the room under the false floor. it comes as a deflated tyre and you use the little compressor to pump it up - so in your boot you should have a can of repair foam and a little compressor for the ciggy lighter. TO be honest not sure what they sell for if you buy one from a dealer but I have one that is unused sat in my garage - you can have it for 50% of whatever a Audi dealer quote you for one if you want one. [/ QUOTE ] Chris - I've just popped down to my local dealer who has (honest, guv) quoted me £2.50 plus a packet of cheesy poofs for a new spare. As per your post above, I've therefore sent you a cheque for £1.25 and half a packet of cheesy poofs and look forward to receiving the tyre in due course. Cheers Sidicks

senga
Just bought an A2 with a bottle of stuff and no spare. Wondered if you still have the spare hanging around in your garage? Thanks. Senga

senga
I've got a TDI sport 75, drum brake, 5 stud - just want to make sure it fits. Have you got a part number? And, how much do you want for it? They make kettle chips somewhere round here so I can probably go up from cheesy poofs....
shao_khan
good choice - the diesel ones are fantastic - I wish I had gone for diesel over petrol mine looked like this: http://www.woofdoggy.com/images/Cars/A2/A2Rear002.jpg http://www.woofdoggy.com/images/Cars/A2/A2Side001.jpg The spare is from my A2 and they only did one stud pattern on them but if you want to come and collect I will happily fit it to show it fits before handing over any money. Ideally I would like around 50% of the Audi price for one, mine is new, unused still got its label on. so make me a reasonable offer that doesnt involve potato, corn, wheat, maize or rice based snack foods. Alternatively I am looking for a autodimming rear view mirror and doors mirrors off of a 04 or later VW Beetle so if you have any of these kicking around I will happily consider a swap. senga
Just called my local dealer to find out how much they cost. Do they come with gold leaf, or just the odd diamond stud? I had no idea they were that much! I missed one advertised at Chesterfield for £20 and I was thinking of £50 max. If that's of interest I can come and collect. Otherwise I'll stick with the bottle of stuff and the AA...
shao_khan
£50 will do me if you can collect (i'd hate to think of postage costs) - yes they are 24K gold plated with diamond encrusting to the lettering, mine is plain black now though as melted all the gold and diamonds off - hence willingness to accept lower price.
